Online Trust Seals

Many companies today such as BBB, eTrust, ... are offering Trust Seals.

I am not sure how much of value does these trust seals provide to a website, and I would love to hear warriors opinion

Although my current business is not really involved in any direct payment to me but I am considering buying one or two trust seals since all my top competitors are displaying at least two of these seals (I guess the main target is to show new users that the website can be trusted).

These seals are pretty expensive, but if they really add a value, I would assume they are mandatory. My main question is as a warrior, would a trust seal on a website make a different ? would you go ahead and complete a transaction through a website because the seal show an A+ over a website ?

    I can't think of a single case where it would make a difference to me. However, the answers you get here in the Warrior Forum don't really mean anything, unless we happen to be your target audience.

    So, while seals may not be a big deal to us, they could make a difference to the people visiting your site.

    If you're in an internet marketing related niche, Warriors' opinion can be useful, I suppose. But otherwise maybe only customers' opinions are helpful, really.

    For myself, when I see those things, I do actually click to see if they're valid, because I know some people just display pictures of them without actually being members of whatever-it-is at all, and that is offputting.

    But other than that, I don't set much store by them at all, and have always assumed (rightly or wrongly?) that they're something anyone can get, just by joining/paying.

    IMO they have $0 value, the only thing that really matters is taking care of your customers, always over delivering.

    I can't even remember the last time I saw a trust seal.

    They defiantly don't have any influence over my purchases.

    But it all depends on your niche.

    Appreciated. My Customer are not limited in one category (but even internet marketers can be part of my customer for that type of site) since it targets anyone that shop online regardless of what they are buying.

    However, my question here for you guys not only because you might be a user, but I assume many of sites owners (specially internet marketers have at some point considered buying it for his own site).

    NO. Don't trust any of those seals. I always do my research before buying anything online. Been scammed too many times and learned my lessons.

    From a scientific standpoint, they are proven to increase sales, so I would say they are a required part of an ecommerce site. More savvy users will do their own research on your company, but the majority of internet users would react favorably to trust seals (even if users don't admit it, trust seals are shown to positively shape first impressions of your website). Some of the claims are probably way exaggerated, but in ecommerce I would say that every little bit helps, which is why I've added two seals to my site now and they have had a measurable positive impact on sales. There are one or two trust seal companies where you can have your business verified for about $100 per year, which isn't bad at all, considering that just one or two extra sales would already make up for the cost.

    I'm starting to wonder if the people in this thread have ever even tested trust seals on their sites...

    I've tested trust seals in 7 different niches (including IM), and in every single niche they increase conversion rates. For our weight loss product, we got one combination of trust seals to boost conversions 17% over a 2000 sale test.

    Verisign, Mcafee and the BBB symbols are all worth giving a test to for your website. I've never had a website do better WITHOUT trust symbols in any niche.

    As a warrior, no, it would not mean anything to me...

    However as Justin Goff aluded to above, for your average website visitor it means tons because of the perception that they help provide

    I have one on my site and the site converts very well. I think it is about the market you are targetting. I know my market very well and know that this sort of thing is something that would give them more confidence in buying.
    I would not take any notice of a trust seal on some sites I must say.
