IE 8 fixed by BIGGEST peeve!

I'm not sure if anyone else had this problem with IE 7, but I have a tonne of windows open when I work.

If I closed a window, say in a forum, just before it redirects to another page (for example, I make a post, it comes up with the confirmation page, I close the window before it redirects back to the post), then it would open hundreds of tabs inside the main browser window until my computer ran out of memory.

Looks like they finally fixed this issue in IE 8!

I'm now a happy man.

After reading this, I've just tried installing IE8. I got a message saying IE8 is not supported on this operating system. I use Windows Vista!!! Back to FF and Chrome.

Typical Microsoft weirdness. Personally I don't know why they even bother updating IE, Firefox, Chrome, even Opera eat it for breakfast. That is fairly hilarious though. Maybe I'll try and download it just to see if I get the same message.

Actually the original beta of IE8 was ONLY available for Vista! While I'd never make it (or any version of IE) my default browser you have to have it if you want to ensure your web sites are usable by the majority of the market. I have already found a number of sites that don't render correctly with IE8 but work fine with versions 7 and 6.

You can download IE8 for several languages and versions of Windows at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/int...ide-sites.aspx

          I can't be bothered with IE8.

Every now and then I find some ill-behaved website or M$ application that forces me to load whatever version of internet exploder is installed on my system.

Perhaps some automatic upgrade will finally push it onto me system, or a new 'puter will arrive with it as the default.:p

FF is great unless you overload it with plugins, but you can use greasemonkey scripts to speed it up. Chrome is the lightest and fastest for me, but I only use it occasionally as I like my FF addons. Flock is another that I use from time to time, but I've tried to forget that IE even existed. Poor thing, MS needs to let it die.

IE8 also killed my sites with lightbox installed, unless I ran it in compatibility mode.

    Hi Sam,

I hope this is not a case where there is a "fix" for something while 10 other issues surface.

I think by now they should get their act together on IE.

Yeah compatibility mode is weird. A lot of sites will trigger it. I do like the color tabs though, thats pretty nice sometimes. However one thing that bugs me with IE8 is when you click on the URL drop down bar, I always click the red X accidetally to open a URL and it deletes it from the list.

I've been using IE for 12 years. I upgraded to IE 8 a couple of weeks ago, and it slowed my computer down to a complete standstill. Crawling along, locking up. I finally said F it and switched to Firefox, something I thought I'd NEVER do.

I wish I'd done it years ago.

I've used 'em all and currently have IE7, Chrome and FF on my PC.

I use IE7 more than the others and I actually like it best.

    Do I need therapy?

I beta tested IE 8 and hated it. Back to Firefox, it's still my favorite and probably always will be.

I got a notice about a new beta for Chrome yesterday. Haven't had a
chance to go look at the fixes yet.

Microsoft SAYS that we'll be able to shut off IE in Windows 7. I'll
believe it when I see it.

I actually use multiple browsers - I use IE8 as my main one, because that's what the majority of my clients use, and so as a developer it's a good idea to mirror what most of my clients use.

I have Firefox, which is good, but I haven't seen any real benfits of - it's the same speed as IE for me.

I guess I'm not very picky with my browsers.

The only one I haven't liked is Chrome, but maybe thats because I didn't give it much of a chance?

As for IE v's FF, for my needs and useage I really don't notice any difference between the two...

    cheers
