Hi everyone

Hope you are all well. I was wanting a bit of advice really on how to get started making some money online. First I will give you a bit of background...

I'm a mummy blogger from the UK working as a part time receptionist. I am a media production graduate and recently trained at University in Search & Social Media marketing and have a few ideas for websites however I lack knowledge on how to monetise (ie affiliate marketing) and aim to raise money to facilitate any of the ideas I have. There are so many affiliate training programs at different prices offering different things that my head is in a spin.

I wondered if anyone set me off in the right direction or offer any friendly advice?

Please feel free to dig for any information I've missed off.

Thanks in advance,

ukmum

Before thinking about monetizing your blog, you should think about building a readership around your blog. If you can build a good readership, your affiliate products will work for you.

    • I would say find a happy medium between building a good relationship with your clients but set out to make money from the offset.

It's so much more enjoyable doing something that is making you money.

You are a mummy blogger but what are you specifically blogging about?

Do you have subscribed users, if yes is it many?

The easiest thing to promote is products or services you normally talk about.

If you have young children and blog about them, you could do a post on why such and such baby product is the best, then stick a link for your readers to buy it too.

    Thank you :-)

I'm not really planning on montizing my blog as I don't feel it's niche is defined enough. It's literally just about may day-to-day life. Plus I only get roughly 50 to 100 vistors per day. I would probably be looking more to build website around a more specific niche but am looking for some decent training to enable me to do it well...

Buy most of CraigRC or Craig Mako's ebooks from the WSO section. I am not an affiliate and I am not advertising. But I am awestruck by his work and can vouch for most of his work, not for all though.

There are few WSOs if any that come close to being as precise and interesting as his ebooks.

Also, buy the War Room subscription. That is again a very big deal to all of us here. You need to have some basic knowledge before you can take action on it.

If required, sell your writing services to earn enough money to invest in your IM biz.

The greatest temptations in Internet marketing is to "buy the shiny new object", and to do something purely because you think it will make you a lot of money, regardless of what niche it's in.

Don't do either of these things.

The master of masters, the guru's guru, Rich Schefren, states that if his sister were to ask him the question, "How can I get started making money online, even though I know nothing about it?" He would tell her to start a blog in a topic which she's PASSIONATE about.

    So here's a process...

    01) Start a blog you're passionate about.
    02) Write at least one post each day on that blog.
    03) Monetize your blog with related offers that you can put into the sidebar/content.
    04) Track your traffic with analytics.

I can tell you that marketing expert Daegan Smith (Creator of the awesome "Maximum Leverage" system) has set up a website back in 2006. He did no SEO (Search Engine Optimization), and he never promoted it at all. All he did was write a post every two or three days for six months straight, and by the end of that six months he was getting 350+ unique visitors each day.

Remember, this is with NO backlinking and NO promotion. He made more than $27,000+ after setting that site up, and leaving it alone for more than four years. That's all with just an AdSense block. Imagine what YOU could make in a blog you posted in every day, promoting it in different ways and offering great advice, solutions, and products to your visitors.

It's possible, but you mustn't let things get overly complicated, and you MUST be patient.

Yes, there is a wealth of knowledge here on the Warrior Forum. However, don't let yourself be swayed by false knowledge (Which you will grow to discover which is true and false with time and experience), and don't fall victim to the "shiny object syndrome" like I once have and so many others have as well. It will suck your bank account dry, and leave you with crushed hopes.

I follow one simple format, and it's the format explained in my Signature Link below. I know it sounds a bit "hyped up", but that's the point of marketing is to get somebody excited. I can say it works, and it keeps me on track so that I don't deviate from my goals, and so I stay focused on what's important.

    Be thankful for my time.

I'd say you could design a banner or image to go by the side of the page or within the content itself, rather than just posting links. This will disguise the link and make it look more like normal ads.

If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, you could hire a graphic designer to do it for you.

One way is to write naturally about a product that you use regularly and then include a Contextual link (a contextual affiliate link) that goes to that products sales page.. maybe it could be some great cookware on Amazon.. (even if you don't actually own it you could read other people's views and reword it in your own words) and the contextual style link will look quite natural.. make the contextual link open into a new window so that your blog remains visible and when they close the product page, after buying , your blog will remain in the visitor's browser window..

      HTH..

      Regards..

    Hi ukmum,

I did not buy this video course yet, but it seems OK, for only $9.95, you can buy it and start from there.

There are so many ways to go it's a struggle to focus in the beginning. I've been online for 3 years now and I remember the days when I it was all to overwhelming.

My advice to you would be to choose a method that suits your skill set or interests (To minimize friction along the way).

I started off learning how to build affiliate sites then I would sell them on Flippa. That got me started, then I progressed on to learning SEO to use on more longer term sites and then I discovered list building which for me was the third piece to the 'site building/monetising' puzzle.

I haven't done a lot with social media or paid advertising with regards to my business but again, lean towards your interests and current skill set as it'll help you a great deal.

You will certainly find anything you are looking on this forum. Ask questions, take action, and realize that your business will not make you millions overnight. Be careful of the 'Shiny Objects' out there! Research, research, research!

You say you are a media production graduate and recently trained at University in Search & Social Media marketing and you want to become an affiliate marketer? That's just going to be a whole lot more learning and consuming other people's information. With no guarantee of making any money.

If I were you I would leverage the skills that you already have. Sell your search and social media marketing skills as a consultant to local businesses or advertise them in the Warriors for hire section of this forum. Providing a service is a much more immediately lucrative business model than affiliate marketing.
