Amazon Affiliates... Help required

Heres what Ive been doing...

Creating a website with products I know
Making various categories on the site
Using plugins to add around 30 best selling items into each category
These that are added have a price, the descriptiom from amazon and an image

Very good results for the first 2 weeks, with instant traffic and sales... But as of August 22nd, a sudden drop in visitors to just 2 or 3 a day

Where do I go from here? Do I start writing long product reviews for the most popular products in each category? Will this help?

I presume the problem is the drop in traffic. Why did your traffic drop? Did Google de-index you because of spammy back links? Did you try a black hat strategy to boost traffic and Get bitch slapped by Google?

AFAIK Google doesn't mind product sites. But, there has to be a connection to what people are looking for and what they see when they arrive at your site. If they are looking for BBQ grills and find BBQ grills when they do a search then Google should like you.

FWIW my understanding is that product review sites may have taken a hit during one of the Google updates. So, the trick is to make sure that you are doing real reviews with real content. Maybe do an angle that your competitors are not doing. i.e. if everyone is doing product reviews maybe you want to do product comparisions.

No blackhat tactics. Still listed on Google but just took a massive drop.

I currently have around 30 products in each category. Would you reccomend i ddelete the whole lot and only have a few products but with decent reviews or should i leave all products there but just review a handful of the best sellers?

It sounds like you used a plugin to just "scrape" amazon of its images/reviews/descriptions?

Did you use any of your own content?

It sounds like you didnt. I'm no pro by any means, but I'm seeing that Content is king.

Then you want to build your own content. Unique content is king.

If you can build a good Youtube base, you can drive lots of traffic. It is worth paying adwords video to promote a few of your videos just to get exposer, which will result in subscriptions if you make videos worth watching.

Most of my traffic right now comes from Youtube. I offer free art tutorials that people like. One of my videos went viral at over 2 million views.

I plan to also pay google to promote a video just to get more exposure.

The next beggest traffic source are sites like Yahoo answers, drawing forums, writing forums, reddit, tumblr, etc. I leave links to my youtube or site in yahoo answers, on forums, on reddit, etc.

Some times its worth the time just to spend a little time and reword the Amazon description it only takes five minutes. Like if you only have a website with 30 amazon products that is identical to amazon its quite clear why you are not going anywhere.

Would it effect my ranking if I have some products that are scraped from Amazon and some with unique reviews/description? or is it better to just delete the whole lot and start 1 product at a time?

For what it's worth. I had a site like you.

What is the best Tanning Lotion

I used a plugin I bought from a WSO that scraped amazon. It looked great, but nothing was unique. I had zero sales. I scrapped it and am doing 100% unique product reviews now, 1 or 2 day.
