How Should I Structure My Sales Funnel?

Hi Guys

I'm getting ready for my first product launch and I'm storing my training in a members area using Wishlist Member to password protect it.

I currently have it set up so that once I receive payment through PayPal, the customer is redirected to a standard Wishlist registration page.

Wishlist has a cool integration feature which I've set up so that once a customer registers they'll be automatically added to a customer mailing list I set up in GetResponse - So far so good.

Here's the problem..

I just did a test run and realized that although I'm using a single opt-in process my customers have to manually confirm their subscription to the list or they won't be added to my list.

To solve this problem I thought of just making the thank you page the list opt in page and then making the opt in thank page the Wishlist registration page, but this would mean that if anyone decided to share the opt in page on say a black hat forum then anyone could register for my training without paying!

Do you think I should leave things as they are and run the risk of not having all my customers on my list OR drop in the squeeze page and run the risk of losing money?

Looking forward to your thoughts
Ricky

    Rick,

You're making things a lot more complex than necessary. Double opt-ins are in place for a reason. You don't want people on your list who are not able to manually confirm a subscription anyway.

If they cannot even subscribe to you effectively - they are not going to get results from your training and make you look good.

After you send your peeps to the reg. page - tell them they MUST confirm their subscript. to finish the process and include step by step pictures or a video for each email client if you deem it neccessary.

PS - I NEVER use single opt-ins. I could go to one of your squeeze pages right now and type in a bunch of email addresses of people who do actually exist - and then you would be spamming them without even knowing it - and then your email list management service provide (Getresponse in your case) would freeze your account because of spam complaints.

Morale: Forget single opt ins. They shouldn't exist.

    Thanks for the insight Justin.

I never thought of adding a video on the reg page - brilliant idea!

I also see your point about the dangers of single opt in. Guess I'll leave the set up as it is after all.

    Thanks

    Ricky,

There's no "right" way to do it. There have been a ton of threads on the WF about this- some use double optins, some like single.

With double optin- even if you give step by step instructions, some people are just lazy and just dont want to go check their email right now.

Plus, people will unsubscribe from your list whether its single optin or double- doesn't matter.

On the other hand, anyone who confirms that they want to be on your list is willing to go the extra steps to get your information, so they're probably more serious about learning/applying what you teach or recommend.

Justin's right Rok. Double opt-in subs are quality people who goes out of their way to check their e-mail to confirm their subscription. This means that they are more active in opening e-mails and responding to your call to action which means more sales for you ^___^

For the few membership sites that I have joined, after I paid I was sent to a page that told me that I had to check my email and click on the confirmation link in that email, and then I would receive a temporary username and password, which I could then change once I logged in.

I am not sure how this is setup, but it makes sense as you get the person on your mailling list, AND by offering up a temporary username and password I assume that it can only be used once and then it is no longer valid, you protect yourself from having people giving out that username and password to all their friends.

One thing that you can do is go to the Wishlist website and talk to their support and ask them.

it is their program after all.
