Default Bought 2 Sites from Member, paid for hosting...now they're down

I bought a couple of sites a month or so ago and paid for hosting from a forum member and now the sites are down and not responding.

Any suggestions?

Hmmm, sure.

Two suggestions actually.

1- Contact the other involved party

2- Learn to make backups and not to be dependent on others to run your business.

I have PMed the party with no reply.

I agree with #2 however I was out of the country with no internet connection for a while right after I bought them. And, of course, when I got back was snowed under playing catchup and the new sites were sort of on the back burner.

Should I post the name?

And - they aren't any sort of business - yet anyway

Is this a hosting business you can open a support ticket for? I know I have hostgator and if I have an issue I open up a support ticket. Or is this only thru an individual? You should have your own hosting so you don't have to rely on another person. They may be busy, offline for awhile, traveling, internet down, you never know.

Don't be defined by someone else's opinion of you.

I forgot to mention that my system crashed 3 days ago and I lost LOADS of info that wasn't backed up - unfortunately, all logins etc were part of that data.

I'm not having a go but you'll probably not do yourself any favours if you post names in here.

Hi Winebuddy...

Your neighbor here in Georgia I know the horror real well after experiencing a crash myself and losing everything. I now use Carbonite...everything is backed up automatically and saved remotely. I had to get a new compuer in December and had no trouble getting everything moved to my new one. This was amazing to me as I am not technical.

And about your bad experience with your hosting packages all I can say is that I hope you get a response. According to the forum rules you have to contact the provider to get the issue resolved. I have had some unpleasant experiences here but some great ones as well.

I have been a member of this forum from the very beginning but somehow my posts disappeared so now I do not have too many just under 160. But I learned that a large number of posts does not mean that the person is responsible, trust worthy or ethical.

One suggestion I can make is to always get an email address and a telephone number especially with a large purchase. I hope that the person will respond and that there will be a favorable resolution.

There are awesome folks on this forum.

All the best!

Sonia
