PDF ebook - Should i make it A4?

Should I make the pdf version of an ebook A4?

I guess this would make sense for people printing it. But I'm guessing most people will read it on the screen.

Would another size be better?

    Hi,

I'd say go with A4. Sure. It's a standard people are used to and it's easy to read on-screen at 100% size. Also easy to increase the size a bit if the reader prefers to read at a larger size.

    Best,

    Andy.

AFAIK, the US standard is letter. Set it to where the majority of your sales are.

    A4 is the standard size.

If they want it any bigger they can just use the zoom function in the PDF reader software.

BTW, if you're creating ebooks I highly recommend that you download Open Office and use the PDF export option.

Microsoft Word can be a real pain in the ass for creating ebooks, especially if you want to hypertext an image.

Sure, it doesn't really matter and I highly doubt that anyone is going to be printing it, as most people just read ebooks on their computer.

    • A4 is the best size. Do not optimize for printing. That old method of designing information dying. You need to think of the computer screen as your canvas for communicating with the customer and you do not want to render words in sequential words that morph into blocks of text.

Seth Godin is one person who i know formats his book in landscape A4 format in which he minimizes the information per page and makes it possible to click-through the book while enjoying the book which is more than a just book... it's a marriage of message and design.

Yes, A4. Especially if you're targetting a newbie market. I printed out eveything when I first started. It helped me learn the IM landscape.

Just be careful when filling that A4 with words. You don't want to look awkward when the page is so massive, while the text content is just 250 - 300 words.
