you don`t always need to write your own solo ad copy

most of the solo ads that i have purchased, i just send them my squeeze page tell them what my offer is about and they write the copy for me

this is of course the easy way out but does work fine because i did this to build a few thousand subscribers

once you are able to write your own effective solo ad copy then try to use that instead of letting the solo seller write it for you because some sellers just write general emails and the traffic and clicks which you get will not always be very targeted to your free offer so your results may be a lot worse than if you wrote your own copy

That's correct. For many IMers that looks like an advantage. For other IMers, including the OP that's a disadvantage

I remember seeing posts (WF posts included here) like this: I run a solo ad, got xyz opt-ins, contacted my new subscribers (my comment: by sending some BS ) and got nothing. Are the solo ads worth, is this type of advertising dead?

==>> People who don't know to write their own ad copy should not waste their money on solo ads. If they don't know to write their ad copy, they won't know what to send to their subscribers. The result of their future marketing campaigns will be based only on luck and that's not email marketing but some sort of gambling

Exactly. What's the bloody point in getting people onto your list if you can't communicate effectively with them. I'm sure you are thinking about this already. To write good email copy you need to actually study copywriting.

To build on Paul's response... I actually recommend asking the solo provider to write the email. They'll know a lot better what works well with their list and what sort of subject lines / angles convert well for them.

Also, here's a quick note... I find that smaller adcopy works better - when it's straight to the point you get more clicks. Try to stay away from longer email copy, people are busy

Agreed, if the owner doesn't write a swipe for you; than you should keep it short. Straight to the point.

You don't own and KNOW that list. So try not to offend anyone or worse, bore them.

      Cheers!

There was some course called Solo Ad Revolution...not sure how good it was.

I remember hearing positive feedback about it.

Most good solo Ad Vendors will prefer to write the email copy because they know their list and they can extract the most amount of clicks from a mailing. In most cases if the solo ad providor does not insist on writing the email copy them selves ask a lot of questions as it is an indication that the Solo Vendor is probably not that experienced or does not have a good relationship with their list.

I have just started building my list and have come across something called click banking which is basically where you swap clicks with other people (ie a set limit)

Try searching the term "click banking" to get a full understanding

Additionally, here's an instant note... I find that smaller adcopy works better - if it's straight to the issue you get more clicks. Try to keep away from longer e mail copy, folks are busy.
