Introductory offers for building a list

Hello fellow Warriors :-)

I just want to take a quick second before asking my question to thank the creators and moderators of this forum. Every day I get to read posts from real people who have been there, succeeded, and then have the graciousness to want to share their knowledge with those us still on the path. It's quite a blessing. Thanks, all of you.

That being said, I'm pretty much a newbie. A learning newbie. I haven't made any money online yet- my background actually is in computers and aerospace engineering. But I want to learn. Desperately. I know I am just like a lot of people out there- a slave, getting up each day in a job I don't like, wondering if things will ever change. Hoping someday to do something that can make a real difference in the world.

This may sound pie-in-the-sky, but from what I have seen, internet marketing really has the potential to change people's lives. Not just from earning gobs of money. I think it goes deeper then that. The real changer is the freedom. To do what you want with your life, without worrying about lack of money stopping you. To learn what you can become.

I'm not really sure I deserve such freedom yet. I've wasted so much of my life, you see, doing things that don't really matter. But some part of me still believes that if I could become rich, then I would do everything I could to help others do the same.

Oh boy, sorry about the speech :-) Here's my question...

If you were building a list in internet marketing, what affiliate offers would you pick to start out your list?

I know list building is extremely important when starting in this business. I also understand Solo ads are a good type of traffic to start with. My goal is to find really high-converting offers, so that when I send solo traffic past my squeeze page, it makes up the cost of my advertising.

I see a lot of people recommending free offers to build a list, but that seems pretty risky if you're using solo ads. Unless you find free offers that have really good OTOs?

Is it better to pick something very niche-specific, or something more general audience?

Should I just throw out an offer, then when people are on my list, ask them what they really want, and use that info to find a better front-end offer?

I want to know how people start to build a funnel and how they use feedback/testing to correct mistakes in the funnel.

Thanks!

if your just starting out then i would stay away from IM until you get a bit more experience

what i did when i first started out was started building an email list around muscle building
because i had an interest in this niche and it is also profitable and there is lots of traffic there too

you can build a list, create a good free offer and maybe use some affiliate offers as your oto`s

doing this is a good building block and will arm you with lots of skills and experience which will help you further down the road

Hi Dan, as commented above (except I'll doubtless say it a little more strongly), among "beginning marketers", the single commonest mistake made, and the single commonest reason for people making up the statistics of the very high failure-rate in internet marketing, is starting off in "the IM niche" before you're fully familiar with all the aspects of this. It's basically a dreadful idea, and stacks the deck firmly against you.

It leads to all sorts of problems - some obvious and predictable and others very much less so.

I can offer you two little tips, here ...

    (i) If you're determined to promote IM products as an affiliate, at least don't promote ClickBank ones, because many of your target customers will themselves already be ClickBank affiliates and they'll (understandably!) buy them through their own affiliate links rather than through yours, so it can be pretty hard to get paid: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post2161932

(ii) There's stuff in this thread that can help you: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post6123982

Can you use solo ads in other niches? How do you find people with lists?

Confession: I joined dotcomsecretsx and I've been going through the training, because I wanted a whole plan instead of piece meal. I think it was a good investment, though I haven't implemented any of it yet, since I wanted to understand things first. Now I think I'm glad I waited (esp if IM isn't the right place to start.)

You should start off in a niche other than internet marketing. Try google-ing something like "baby sleep tips". There's people paying for that.

I believe that forum marketing is very powerful to get fast traffic. There are many people who are on forums. Just look at this forum. There is more than 500,000 members. It is all about providing value to your readers and customers.

The first thing that you should offer is a high quality ebook or PDF file. This is always the easiest that you can ever offer.

I have read many times, newbies should stay away from the IM Niche..
but I myself, and not so concerned about it.

Initial product creation can be tricky, but list building in the IM niche is a piece of cake.
Create an offer, publicize it via solo ads (easy to do in the IM niche) ..maybe even consider offering it as a free wso.. voila.. instant list.. and a boatload of products to promote if you want to.

Now.. if you try jumping on board and promoting some of the big products the moment they launch, chances are your emails get lost in the shuffle..

But if you promote things you actually use, have experience with, and can recommend.. it's not all that hard.

Also.. be very cognizant of offering helpful posts and thoughts to your list.. not just non stop selling.
I hope that helps a little bit.
