Amazon review site.....

I know its been asked a million times but just want your take on my questions here and now.

Going down the amazon review site to start and get me into IM.

Due to google updates am i better doing a big site that covers lots of different categories or doing several smaller sites that cover each category on its own?

Also i hear its better to have a domain name that is brand able, is this true? Could u give me some examples so i know what i am aiming for.

Is google adsense better on a review site or could i make money with clink bank offers?

Any tips or hints before i venture into the unknown?

Thank you

Ross

If you're going down the Amazon path then why are you asking if Clickbank or Adsense is better to put on your site? You will want to link to Amazon if you're doing product reviews?

Also, please please use the Search function. As you say, this has been asked and answered a million times. So the "I want your answers here and now" statement doesn't really fly. It really doesn't get more "here and now" than what's already on the forum.

The clink bank and adsense to add around the reviews and amazon links.

Is either better than the other on that type of site?

Stick with larger sites, starting with one. Focus on a broader niche (power tools for example) so there is never a shortage of stuff to review. Brandable domains, assuming g good content, will often attract natural backlinks.

Target lower competition stuff so you can focus on content creation and less on backlinking.

Keep Adsense and clickbank off the site as they are just distractions.

or do what wolfmmiii says. Lol! Joking aside, the guy really seems to know what he's talking about though we seem to have a different take on certain things. I don't disagree with his take. There's more than one way to do it that works. You will just need to figure out what works for you.

The only thing that stinks about amazon is the fact that you get into a bidding war with the other people who sell the same products on the site, and eventually no one wins.... If you can, get into promoting UNIQUE products.

I understand this but being a complete newb to IM i thought this would be a great way to start before i start to think about working on the other ideas i have. Do not want to run before i can walk. Slow and steady and learn a lot of stuff along the way.

I tend to steer clear of Adsense and use Clickbank if there is a relevant offer.

Also, I would build smaller sites and then build out the winners to avoid risking a ton of time and resources on one big site that my be a loser for niche or keyword (or other) reasons.

  • I'll give you a tip from someone who did an OK amount per month with amazon sites (me) and lost it all. I did sites on one type of product, and I linked them to hell. Didn't care about the links, but it worked. The content was done by myself and the Reviews I did were massive and detailed, so the quality wasn't bad, but I think the links I had after the updates did me no good. So I've lost it.

So I suggest these changes :-

Go as broad as possible. If you've got it in you, build a site reviewing any type of product, or go for something broad such as baby products. Or perhaps weird and interesting products that you didn't know existed, and review them.

I've had to rethink my plan and have begun a massive site reviewing any product I feel like on the day. I don't check the amount of searches it gets. I don't check how many people like it or don't. I just go on Amazon, see what interests me and review it now.

I post it to the sites twitter, I bookmark them to get some quick social traffic, and if others like it I get a few likes/retweets/diggs. Post it on the facebook page and move onto another product and wait until tomorrow.

As I write more and more articles I keep getting visitors from very long-tail keywords and predict it may take close to 6 months to 1 year to build my income back up. But once it is up, there is no reason why it should die.

Also, collecting a list of people on the site who want updates on products being sold for 80%+ off or coupon codes. Whilst I will update them with this info, it's more for the holidays when an e-mail blast will be more likely to make me in a few days what could take me 6 months to make.

Still, I don't see how you can run a review site that will be popular or people will visit without anything unique, such as buying the products yourself and using them and reviewing them whilst using it. Then running it through some fun tests to see if it breaks, and so forth. Which would be a good plan once the site grows.

Still, this doesn't guarantee my site will stay in Google if changes come about but the chances should be considerably lower if all I do is submit content and share it on social networks. And hopefully through collecting a list and doing a few things that stand out I wont need Google forever because I'll have return traffic and word of mouth, hopefully.

Meanwhile I'm doing something else which involves using some methods I've known about and know of its success to make money but have never bothered because I just wasn't interested, and that's list building, which should be fun :]

    *EDIT*

And I know my signature contradicts what I say, but it's true. Building links work, but if it happens to trip a google filter later on you could find your site losing all its business if you depended on Google. Still, SEO still sells well and as I've lost quite a bit of my income it's helping me to suplement while I build up other more lasting methods.

the only tip that I will give you , which is the best suitable for you (in my opinion based on how you ask) is to buy or read a good n proven system of online business. Adsense is not the same with clickbank, it's 2 different website concepts and you can specialize your website into each of this 2 source of income.
It's just different in my opinion if you want high revenue website.

Due to google updates am i better doing a big site that covers lots of different categories or doing several smaller sites that cover each category on its own?

    - It depends what you mean by "smaller sites"... I have over 30 amazon affiliate sites in different niches but some of them over 20,000 products listed. My advice would be don't try to replicate amazon and put up a site that sells every product imaginable. Instead, put unique sites for top level categories ie; home appliances, building supplies, boating supplies, etc, etc, etc... you would be amazon about how much subcats each top level cat has.. some even have hundreds of thousands of products for you to choose from.

Is google adsense better on a review site or could i make money with clink bank offers?

    - I've tried both and seem some minor success with clickbank but almost none with adsense. Adding either doesn't seem to effect my amazon conversion rates negatively but it's even worth taking the time to put them there in my opinion. For an entire month I had a adsense leaderboard ad in the header of my top earning amazon site and I had a related CB product in the left sidebar (HUGE ad). That month that site made me about $9 from adsense, $50 from CB and over $1300 from amazon.. if your goal is to promote amazon products, don't waste space with anything else

Any tips or hints before i venture into the unknown?

    - Don't waste money on all the BS products that people here will try to push on you. Research competition, find their rankings, and try to duplicate it. Learn to have processes of site creation and product uploads automated. If you want to make REAL money in this biz you can't be sitting in front of your comp all day writing reviews on hair dryers and the newest coffee machine that came out. Find big markets, find your competition, duplicate what they are doing (<- I obviously don't mean steal their content, I mean find out what they're promoting and how they are getting traffic).

Do you mean hire a large content team or do you mean that you make auto-generated Amazon sites with scraped content from Amazon itself?

    Hey Bunny,
I have made both AdSense Sites, Amazon Sites, and ClickBank sites, and I can tell you that the best option is ClickBank. My amazon site (GizmoStash » Cool Gadgets, Novelties, Gift ideas and More!) got glitched and I gave up on it, however it still gets constant sales every few days trickling in.

Adsense websites are a bit iffy, it is VERY easy to get banned by Google, with zero explanation. For this reason I would recommend making a ClickBank product review website, or starting Video marketing the products on YouTube.
I have a link in my signature which may be of interest to you, it is a Warrior-Approved thread I made giving away my eBook for free which will guide you through setting up your own ClickBank affiliate marketing videos on YouTube, which can provide for you a long time after you upload the videos and they continue to get traffic.
Good luck with your online money making adventures!

Larger sites are better now (20 - 30 pages if poss). But you still need to be niche focused with multiple categories and some contextual on-page linking.

As for the adsense/clickbank question, it really depends on the niche and whether there are any info products that are known to convert.
