Any Suggestions on How To Create a Plug in?

I think I have an idea for a cool plug in and wonder if any fellow warriors have suggestions on the best way to about getting it built.

Should I go overseas? Partner with someone? What are the rough costs? Pitfalls to avoid?

I'm far from a computer programmer, as I can barely type on a keyboard correctly.

Any tips on getting this built or the best way to go about would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Warriors!

You could put a request out somewhere like Odesk or Elance - and see roughly how much it would cost to get your plugin specced up.

I had two bad experiences on freelancer and odesk..I hesitant to jump back on there, until I fully understand how to work with such a distance between the workers and I.

I would have to fully plan it out and provide explicit details i guess to get a good estimate. Any good companies that are reputable and seasoned when it comes to building quality plug ins?

        It would be for WordPress...

I'm starting to think that maybe a simple software program might work better than a plug in...

Is creating software pretty much the same as getting a WP plug in built?

Please pardon my ignorance on this subject..technical stuff is not my strong suit.

I just noticed a solution to a problem that I think I can solve if i had a certain tool..the tool doesn't exist...so i figured i would look into building it. who knows.. doesn't hurt to try right?

The development team at my regular "day job" hired a good WP plugin developer from Elance.

They seem to reckon that provided you are clear and really check any portfolio work, you should be fine

You probably live near a WordPress meetup group where you can meet some local people that develop for WordPress. There's one in practically every major city.
