How do YOU get the most out of IM forums?

Hey everyone,

It's been great to poke around here for the last couple of weeks! We've always heard about the Warrior Forum as the "gold standard" of IM forums, which is what led us to finally set up our own membership, and get into the conversation.

Thanks to everyone who has friended us or messaged us about Derek's retirement, or expressed positive feelings about us dipping our toe in.

What we wanted to ask was this:

How do you find and use forums to make yourself more successful?

How did you find this forum?

When you approach a forum or a community, do you have a standard way of interacting with the people there? Do you tend to hang back and watch until you get a sense of the community, or do you dive right in with questions and advice?

Do you search for the specific information you're looking for, or read a variety of threads, hoping to gather some comprehensive value?

Do you tend to interact with the same people all the time (within your niche or working on your pet strategy) or do you like to be a "member about town"?

We have our theories about how people use forums, from what we've heard from customers and clients -- but how do you get the value you're seeking?
