How important is Alexa ranking?

Don't worry about it. The site tracks traffic through those who have the Alexa toolbar installed. Not a complete picture. Doesn't mean much even if it were accurate, as it's not niche specific.

Actually, Alexa ranking helps Webmasters and advertisers see the true marketing potential of your Web site. The better your Alexa rank, the higher they will be willing to bid to buy advertising space on your Web site.

Most people consider it is valuable only for direct advertising. Given the fact that Alexa ranking for a site is calculated on the basis of how many visitors with the Alexa toolbar installed have visited that particular site, the results can be inaccurate.

Alexa ranking helps me identify whether a website is receiving a good traffic or not. Although is it not accurate, it is at least provides raw estimate on traffic.

Personally I would only rely on true analytics data to see if a site is receiving traffic or not.

Pretty sure I saw a couple threads yesterday about how to boost your Alexa Rank...actually I remember posting in one

It really depends on the context. For example, a marketer who is buying traffic and sending it to either a squeeze page or directly to CPA offers or an authority website, aren't going to be as concerned with it because they're more focused on sales and net profit.

Now if you're selling advertising on your website then the Alexa rating (among others) will definitely be important because competent buyers are going to look at that. Though ultimately, what really matters is how many unique visitors you get per month (or daily) and how long they stay on your website.

Personally, I rarely look at Alexa ratings, I focus more on my company's growth and net profits after expenses.

Well... ProfitClicking.com has an Alexa rating of 1803 globally. JustBeenPaid used to be in the top 300. And well, my opinions of those sites isn't a very positive one. I take everything with a grain of salt, including Alexa.

Not really important as alexa is just traffic. So instead of focusing on your alexa rankings, just focus on the amount of traffic you get to your site as well as how much money you are making off it, obviously.

Not all website visitors and internet users have the Alexa toolbar installed. For some cases, the Alexa ranking does not mean anything.
But in other cases, the fact that webmasters are still considering the Alexa ranking of a site before intending to buy it, contribute guest posts, etc..

It's just as important to your business success as your weight. I mean you, personally, standing on a scale, that weight. That is, it's a metric, something you can measure, but it has no business importance at all. Maybe you get a kick out of checking it, that's neat, but it changing won't earn or lose you a penny.

I don't find it even that helps at all. The data proves inaccurate at times but does give at times an "ok" indication of how the traffic is doing.

I do not think it is very helpful for ranking, but only for your own information and if you want to sell ads on your website, it is becoming very important. So, depends on what you are after with your website.

Alexa ranking is worthless and so is PR, but a lot of people are still deluded into thinking those rankings are important, so if your goal is to "flip" sites on Flippa, they are good rankings to have to boost interest in your listings; otherwise, forget about it. Just bunk.

Well, Alexa rankings matter but there is a problem with it. It is possible to fake Alexa rankings and this fact reduces its value. My suggestion for use is to take a look at SEMRush instead.

Alexa is part of the Amazon group, and as other say I would not worry about the rank unless you want the info to show possible advertisers, my own site is 2 years old has a PR1 so low but my site is found for many subject matters some even above the big boy sites,keep to good content and the numbers will come naturally as will the rankings

Well unless you have been under a rock for the last year and haven't looked at the actual data behind Trust and Signals, you might find Alexa is also measured in along with social signals, traffic, PR, Domain Age, Index Count, etc. It is now about the "Buzz" and not so much about SEO Optimized Pages or number of backlinks. Trust and Citations which are flow metrics are heavily weighed now. Does Alexa fall into this?

If you want to sell your site on flippa you will find that google page rank is very important, and so is your alexa score. These are more important the monthly uniques. Well, it is a metric that is easy to manipulate,but there we go. People often ask me. "How can we increase our alexa score?"

Try to go on social media sites and post snippets of your articles as that will drive traffic to you. Also, target the typical techy audience that has the alexa tool bar.

it depend on your niche really, if you are targeting internet marketer, for example make money online niche, copy-writing gig, etc. you will have to assess your site rank with Alexa. We all know that every internet marketer have Alexa toolbar in the browser. But if you are not in that niche mentioned above, Alexa rank doesn't mean anything.

  Nothing you posted has anything to do with Alexa. Neither does anything on the page you linked, nor do MajesticSEO's trust and citation flow metrics. Alexa data is not part of any search engine's SERPs. It never will be. Neither Google nor Microsoft would have need for a third party's bad panel data to estimate traffic if they wanted that to be an input.
  
  Aside from being easy to manipulate and having little correlation to trust, quality or "buzz", Google has tags directly on over 90% of the top 20k domains; it has its own toolbar with a larger install base than Alexa; it has URL history from the most popular browser in the world; it runs DNS servers used by millions of people -- they have better data than Alexa could ever hope to get.

I'm personally starting to keep track of these rankings so I can gauge what effect some of the changes I'm doing have on a website. For instance, by improving Meta Titles and Descriptions, I suspect that the site's Alexa ranking will get better.

I consider it therefore pretty important. Low Alexa rankings could also be indicative of Google penalizations.

It's good to have it low ranking, but it doesn't matter that much really. Some of my niche sites were really awful rankings, but the very few traffic I got converted really well.

Your Alexa rank should only be of concern if you are looking to monetize your blog, or sell it.

Otherwise, its not important however it is a useful indicator of the success of your site.

Alexa rank is only part of the picture. Put it together with your traffic statistics to build a portfolio of your website if you are considering flipping your domain (or selling your blog). It will mean way more to someone buying your site or domain than it does to your visitors.

Actually The Traffic estimation done by Alexa is not precise or accurate. It is a Rough and Averagely estimated Data. However, They are Providing Accurate data when you Buy Their Site Audit Packages.
