PAYPAL Changing It's Image?

Today I was welcomed with an email from PayPal and it was good news. Here is an extract of it:

Dear michael hill,

PayPal appreciates your business and continues to design its products and services with you in mind. Our goal is to make sending and receiving payments simple and seamless.

With that in mind, we want to share some good news with you. Due to your feedback and outstanding account performance, PayPal will no longer temporarily hold your funds in the event of a dispute, claim, or chargeback. These processes used to require funds to be held in a pending balance while the outcome was determined. Going forward, your funds will not be held in a pending balance.
I think PayPal is trying to negate some of the bad publicity they have had over the years. Speculation tells me it's because they lost huge revenues over the last 6 months or so.

Sounds like you don't have any "negative publicity" with paypal..

That's nothing new. PayPal stopped holding my funds when there was a chargeback at least a year or two ago. It's based on your account history.

Did you read that somewhere? PayPal is a division of eBay. eBay's quarterly revenues:

    Q2 2011: $2.7bn
    Q2 2012: $3.4bn

They grew every quarter in-between, too, and profits followed, not just revenue.

eBay.com has been pretty stagnant, while PayPal's been growing in every direction. They've now got mobile card readers and are accepted in thousands of retail stores... where they weren't a year ago.

Now, just because eBay ownes them and overall they made money as a whole, PayPal could very well still have lost money.

They are changing the way they handle things at customer service.

There was also something else I read (can't find it now) about 6 months ago, about PayPal losing business.

I had lots of issues with them holding funds in the beginning but it has been over a year since they have done that. They realize there are other services out there and we can easily switch over if they screw with us. : )

I've read it. Talk is cheap. PayPal's apologized and promised to change its way over that type of incident many times in the past. If the new exec wants to change how customer service works at a company with a quarter billion customers, it's not gonna happen overnight.

Regardless, this policy of not holding funds for accounts with a long history predates him even joining the company.

I also got this email today and I think it is nice.

I have been using PayPal since May 2009 for IM and never had any significant problems with them. Actually, the only time a had a problem with PayPal was in January 2011 when my account was temporarly suspended after I tried to transfer about $1,500.00 to my bank business account while being in Europe on vacation. After my return to Chicago my account was restored within a few days. I can understand why they did that.... no hard feelings on my part.

In my case PayPal has been great!
