Couple questions I'm dying to ask...

I'm a complete noob (sorry), and I have a couple questions about picking niches and picking products to market.

1. Do most IM'ers pick the niche first, then look for matching products or product first and then figure out a suitable niche to match that product? For instance: let's say I think of a great niche, for example teaching your dog to stop barking. Do you go on ClickBank or your prefered site and look for products to match that site? I have a good idea for a niche that a TON of people must be searching on right now, but I'm having trouble finding products for it.

2. Might catch heat from other warriors for this, but I picked my first product to market on ClickBank based on gravity and the niche I'm working, etc, and I have a feeling it may be either fraudulant, or contains pirated material. I emailed their "support desk" to ask a question, and it bounced back. Would you stop promoting it? Can you provide some tips on how to pick good products to market on ClickBank?

3. One other quickie, if I make a sale through ClickBank and the person demands a refund, do I loose my commission?

    Hi

This is what I do. First I pick a niche to research that I think is interesting or might be profitable.

Then I do my keyword research to see what sort of searches are being done. If there are a lot of keywords with between 80-100 searches a day and less than 100,000 competing sites then I usually decide that it is worth going ahead with.

I will then check out places like Magazines.com to see if there are any magazines selling in the niche, because these magazines have ads in them and people don't pay for ads if it isn't profitable. I also check out how many adwords ads show up when the niche term is searched for the same reason. I then check out Amazon and Clickbank to see if there are affiliate products to promote.

If all of this checks out well then I will usually go ahead and promote the niche. This is a fairly broad view of what I do but I usually include all of these steps in my research just not necessarily in this order each time.

To answer your other questions if I thought a product on clickbank or anywhere else was dodgy then I wouldn't promote it, I would find something else. And yes if a sale you make through Clickbank is refunded then you lose the commission.

    I hope this helps.

    Lynette

      1. Market first cause the product may be great but if nobody wants to buy it...game over. If there isn't a product to match the market...bingo...go make one.

      2. I know this is a cop out but the answer is 'depends'. On many factors.

      3. Yep, you and the seller lose the commish...unless it's after the guarantee period then the buyer is out of luck.

      Hope that helps.

Lynette, Thanks so much for the tips! One thing though, and maybe this is "proprietary info" of yours, but once you discover a niche is worth marketing, how do you figure out what to market? Seems one of the hard parts is finding decent products that have an affiliate-type relationship setup. Any tips on how to deal with that?

Also thanks to Dave for replying too. Very good info

Once you've found your niche, you want to find out what people are talking about in that niche, what questions are they actually asking, what problems are they facing and what solutions are they looking for. So the point of promoting an affiliate product is that you have the solution to their problems.

So just type into google ("your niche" + forum, so "stop dog barking + forum) and this will take you to any relevant forums and it would be exactly the same as here at the WF, so you can get an insight into what people are thinking. You can also research your niche and what people are saying at Google Groups, Yahoo Groups and Yahoo Answers.

For an affiliate program you can do the same thing again in google search, so type in (stop dog barking + affiliates) and this will show results for any relevant affiliate products.

You're getting great advice on your question so take each of the comments you are receiving under advisement. Hopefully, I can only add to what you have already received.

Don't overlook the possibility of generating your own product. I agree wholeheartedly with the advice to identifying a reasonably hot market first, before deciding to jump in. The fast approach is always to identify the market in need and find the affiliate product to fill it. There is, however, plenty to said for creating your own product to fill the need. Books can, and have, been written about how to do this so I won't add to the info pile. Just consider creating your own product if you find the right niche that truly piques your interest or expertise. Yes, it's the tougher route, but very profitable if done correctly.
