Does Amazon work as well in the UK as much as the US?

I've never actually compared the two but I have a feeling that it doesn't.

Reason? Well, the US is a much larger country as we all know and have some towns that can be hundreds of miles away from the next one. This means that the folk who live in these towns don't necessarily have access to large shopping malls and so they find Amazon a great place to shop online for almost anything.

Whereas in the UK it doesn't matter where you live, most towns have access to the likes of Comet, Argos, Dixons etc, which provide competition for Amazon and not 100's of miles away for most people to get to.

I may be wrong but I would like to hear your thoughts on this.

    I think Amazon is a very viable option in the UK, granted it would probably be slightly less successful than if you were in the US. I have known people to be successful as an Amazon affiliate even in Australia!

    Hi Robj1,

    There's no reason why you need to confine your activities to just selling Amazon UK stuff. The world - literally - is your oyster, here.

    And, as you say, the US market is far bigger, so that's where you should concentrate to get the best return on your efforts.

    Consider all things. The USA is much bigger and more of a "buy buy buy" nation. the UK is a scaled down version, with a gentlemens accent. People everywhere are willing to buy online, but the US does excel at it.

    The question is, why not both? Start in US and expand to UK.

    It appears that Amazon is moving to same day or next day delivery when you buy from them. It will probably be far easier to execute this strategy in the UK due to the smaller geography.

    Not exactly true. Most people do not live where the nearest town is hundreds of miles away. Most people live in areas where there is too much shopping available rather than too little. I live in the country, but there's shopping galore just 30 minutes away and everyday shopping just 10 minutes away.

    lol... interesting theory.

    But I can assure you that millions people still buy from amazon UK.

    The monthly search volume is less, but so is the competition in for most keywords.

    Even if you have lots of places to shop at, people still love the idea of going online and buying what ever they need.

    Just because most affiliates are in the US, does not mean that they have higher profitability with Amazon. I know of guys and ladies who all the way down in Australia who are making great income.

    Going back to what somebody said earlier, i am sure i have read a thread that you cant have a UK affiliate account and sell to USA as it just takes them to the USA site from the UK and your commission goes and vice versa.

    Please correct me if i am wrong as i would love to be able to do both UK here and then to the USA as well.

      The simple solution to your question is to open Amazon accounts in the UK and US. that way you can sell to both markets.

    Both the Amazon UK and Amazon US are big markets. However, US is a much bigger country, so the total number of purchases done is much higher. However, it would be interesting to see a comparison of the ratio of Amazon US purchases/US inhabitants with Amazon UK purchases/UK inhabitants.
