I'm not sure if it's the only way, but you get those amzn.to links by shortening an Amazon URL over at bit.ly. Perhaps it's bit.ly, then, not Amazon, who own that domain? Not sure... a .to whois lookup on most sites doesn't seem to return squat beyond its DNS servers. Be careful they don't swap out your affiliate link for their own, or whatever. And be wary of relying on third party URL-shortening services; if they change, go belly-up or for some reason you're given the boot, you're jiggered.

Amazon definitely own the amzn.com domain, however. I don't think there's any way, or any need, to actually create/add these URLs from scratch in the same way you would with other services. They're pre-mapped, you just build them by inserting the relevant information - namely the ASIN code (found on every product page) and your affiliate ID. Like this:

    Code:
    http://amzn.com/ASIN-CODE-HERE/?tag=AFF-ID-HERE
And if the product is on Amazon.co.uk, the format is the same but use amzn.co.uk instead of amzn.com.

There is a simpler way to do this within your Amazon Associates account.

From your associates account page search for the product you want to link. On the search results don't click on the "Get Link" button, instead click on the little down-pointing arrow at the side of the button. This will bring up a dropdown box with the plain HTML link, and an option "Shorten URL with amzn.to?" Click that. There's your shortened link
