Resend emails to unopens or those who did not click?

Hey,

Is it better to resend emails to those who did not open the email or those who did not click the email?

    I do neither.

But for me, of the two options you offer, it would be much better to re-send to those who didn't open the email than to those who didn't click. I certainly wouldn't want to re-send it to someone who opened it and didn't click. Put yourself in that person's position: what would you feel? What would you do? Now look at it again from the marketer's perspective: can you realistically gain from it, overall?

Just from my experience, its better to send new updates to the whole list. Targeting people who opened but did not click might lead to lots of unsubscriptions. You should be culling those who don't open within a fixed time frame. Aweber has a filter tool for this.

    It's risky.

On the positive side, you might resend the email and they just missed it the last time so they'll open it this time.

On the neutral side, you might resend the email and they'll just see it and ignore it again.

On the negative side, you might resend the email and they'll get frustrated thinking you're spamming them and unsubscribe from your list.

    In all honesty,
    It's completely up to you.

Worth testing it - resending to those who haven't opened it and finding out if your second email does the trick. Maybe a new headline will pull better.

Thanks guys, I've resent emails to unopens before and its resulted a ton more opens and click throughs, but Ive read that sometimes text emails dont register in your opens so you might resend it to them by accident.

i would just send updates to the entire list, rather than just the unclicked users.

be careful not to piss your subscriber off so much that they unsubscribe. Possibly wait 10 days then resend to those that did not open.

In Chris Baggots book email marketing by the numbers he suggests tracking how many unopens a particular subscriber has then segmenting them to track...if they don't open then you can send them a recovery email asking them to verify that the want to keep getting emails from you...if they don't respond...Fire them.

It's your list, don't pay for dead weight...make room for active subscribers. Whenever you manage a list there will need to be pruning...yeah I like relationships as much as the next guy, but this is a business decision so don't feel bad about it.

I've been firing my unopens for years which is why I have a very responsive list

I would resend the email to those who didn't open the email.

Let me give you a concrete and personal example on why I do not recommend resending the email to those who opened the email but didn't click the link. If I were the recipient and I opened the email but didn't click the link, that means I'm not interested at all to what that link may offer to me. So, resending it to me will just annoy me more.

I hope that helps and makes sense.

I use eBizAc and from what I've read my autoresponder and other AR's don't let you filter down your susbcribers by unopens overall not just by individual messages.

I'd wait a few days and send the email again to those who didn't open it. If they opened it but didn't click on anything that probably means they weren't interested.

Only HTML-format emails can have their open-rate monitored. Plain text emails can be counted only if a link inside the email is clicked: their open-rates per se can't be measured.

Even HTML e-mails cannot accurately be tracked. By default, all major e-mail and webmail clients do not display images in mails and the only way opens are tracked is by the loading of a tracking image. By resending mails to people that "didn't open" them, you will actually be sending the mail to people that did open them, but viewed the text version of the mail, or did not allow your images to load.

I never mail to people again who did open the mail, unless there is an update.

But, I will wait a couple weeks and mail to people again who did not open the previous email.

    It works fine for me.

Now and again I see a complaint about a lot of mail, but not often. And most every time I mail again, I profit from the process.

Email open rates are not accurate these days. What if someone read the email you sent, but decided not to click on the link within your email? If you resend the same email once, ok, it may be treated as a mistake, but if you keep resending the same email over and over again, a recipient may think you are trying to spam him. I would not do this, anyway.

    Both.

Those who didn't open, email them with a better subject.

Those who didn't click, push the offer harder.

Well, you never know. Maybe they marked your newsletter as junk long time ago and they just too lazy to unsubscribe. As of me, if someone subscribes to me. I try to send the same video within first 2 weeks only with different email text and subjects, as a remainder.Still no results? Then don't bother!

"Unopens" stats can provide false information as NOT all the users can be tracked (think of business people who use desktop clients like Outlook etc with images disabled by default etc), no matter if you use Aweber or any other AR service.

Taking decisions based on "Clicks" seems to be a better choice as clicks can be perfectly tracked.

    Just my 2 cents.
