Is there an earnings cap to Internet Marketing?

Heya!

So I wondered... is there a limit to your IM income? I'm interested in affiliate marketing, writing reviews. Maybe there's a certain point where you can't maintain your old stuff anymore and you'd hit an income cap (unless you start outsourcing or exploring other income methods).

Second question: should I keep consistency in my online identity? Like, would it be beneficial because people would recognize you? Maybe doesn't it matter to have two-hundred-thirty-seven different names and accounts.

Yep, I'm a newbie. Haven't even started, yet. Heard about internet marketing whilst researching Japanese ecosystems, but I'm quite interested to get at this next year. I've been reading this forum's old threads now, you folks seem nice.

I do not think there is a cap there for your earnings. It is there if you do not outsource anything.
With regards to your name, I think that you can use as many names as you want, but if you want to become an authority in any of the niches, you hould use one name.

While it is not easy to earn obscene amounts of money online, in theory, it seems there is no limit on how much one could earn.

Sky is the limit. Earning cap I think is known only to lazy people.

Some of the CPA heavyweights are making millions of $$$ every month.

But in general, your income will be in direct proportion to your list size, marketing skills and level of experience.

Sky is the limit but not everyone succeed. It will depend on how you manage your business, the market you enter and how are you going to get in the boat whenever Google updates.

You will reach a limit if you don't know how to delegate tasks to employees/outsourcers. There's only so much work a single person can accomplish in a day. However, many people get into internet marketing because they dream of hands off millions. That's in the dreamworld, not in reality.

That's the best part about IM and being a Entrepreneur in general, there is no earning cap. The only earning cap is how much you allow yourself to make

Well, sometimes there IS a cap to a method and setup and not everything is easily scalable as supposed, especially if you perform services. When you reach that point in the game, you have to change your method of operation, usually by outsourcing the work (or some of it) and/or by expanding on the services you offer and to whom you offer them to. Depending on the services, it can be a daunting task to train people to do some of the work. So, you may have temporary times of non-growth as you deal with successes, but that's a good thing overall.

I heard of a guy who earns $50m annually just by domaining. And there are many CPA gurus who earn 5-10+ m a year I think.

There is no earnings cap. As long as you're ambitious and have a strong entrepreneurial mindset that's focused on growth, your income can be as high as you want it. The multi-millionaires in the IM fields are the ones who found a system that worked, stuck to it, reinvested their income, and scaled it to enormous proportions.

Strictly speaking there's perhaps no ceiling, but above and beyond a certain point, one's ability to scale further is going to depend partly/mostly on one's managerial, business management and outsourcing skills.

At a "lower" level, although some management skills are typically needed, it perhaps has more to do with having a viable business model in the first place (which, of course, most people don't - which is a big part of the reason why the failure-rate is significantly high, though that's also true of many other forms of self-employment, too).

Very interesting topic, is there a limit or ceiling to what one could earn in IM.

    1) Well in theory the answer would be no.
    2) But in actuality the answer would be yes,

Different people have different ideas on the figures they would like to make, so you would have an ascending scale, from very modest to sky's the limit. If we looked at the scenario that if everyone thought they would become a millionaire, then we all know that is not possible. That's not to say that the individual should not strive for that ambition, but just to say that it's not going to be obtainable for everybody. The world would come to a stop if one day everyone decided they wanted to be working for themselves on the internet. There is a financial law that keeps this in balance.

Very interesting! Thanks everyone for the replies.
Rephrasing your answers in my own words; the possibilities are unlimited, the only limits are your own.

    There is no floor either.
Does that mean one can loose a lot or does it mean there are no entry level requirements?

However, many people get into internet marketing because they dream of hands off millions.
And the expectation of easy money keeps them from actually working.

It means that you can lose a LOT if you are not aware of the rules of Internet Marketing.

Many IM methods have this steps :

      1. Build a website
      2. Write 2-3 articles
      3. Put in a newsletter
      4. Promote affiliate products
      5. Earn money

There are many ways to promote your site.Paid and free methods.

One of the paid methods is PPC. If you are not aware of the PPC game, you may lose tons of money without even realizing it.

So, no there is no floor either.

When I said there is no floor, I meant that people can jump from one method to another, and keep spending money without ever making any.

There is a myth that you can just push a few buttons and money flows to you. Sometimes IM guys keep looking for that easy way. And after they aren't rich (at the end of the first day), they jump to the next "wonder pill".

There are WSO junkies (I may be one myself). There are also people who never put forth the effort to make any real money.

It took me four years of study and trial-error before I could post anything here without feeling like a newbie. Making money online is easy...
Just master copywriting, SEO, linking strategy, pricing, market demand, sales, customer service, and a few other skills...and it's easy.

Nope no cap when it comes to marketing online. If you have ingenuity, you can continue to make money in so many ways. If you are killing it with affiliate sales, maybe begin some type of service.

The list goes on and on. One thing I should say is to always diversify AWAY from the internet. I think the smartest thing you can do is build online AND offline.

Your earning power depends on how much you limit yourself. There's no such thing as a ceiling in internet marketing but how well you've grasp what you've learnt here to put into action. Outsourcing will definitely increase the speed to get things done fast.

I'd like to para-phrase marketer Eric Louviere here. The ceilings that are there are generally self-imposed and also based on what kind of business you're going to start and if you have the necessary skillsets needed to grow that business (or a portfolio of businesses).

However, let's say you start earning 1k a month after 90 days of hard work. You now have a 1k a month marketing system. So if you want to make, let's say, 10k per month, you now need to tweak and refine that system so you can have a 10k per month marketing machine.

It also depends on what kind of business you want to build and what types of monetization models you want to pursue. I have a guy in one of my mastermind groups who only does one thing, but he does it well. He does very basic niche research, then he puts up a squeeze page, buys some PPC / PPV traffic, builds a list with about 20 to 200 products (depending on the niche) and the markets to that list.

He doesn't do much relationship-building and he stills makes a lot of money (high five figures per month). He has about 50 of these types of squeeze pages. I keep advising him to diversify but hey.......

Let's say you wanted to become a writer and sell your services. You can make money that way, but you're definitely limited to how much output you can create. There's a Warrior here who has a staff about about 12 writer's and makes a nice six figure per annum income doing about 1% of the writing and 99% of the managing of his team, etc.

You're only limited by your own skillset, you willingness to be open-minded, business acumen, and willingness to learn, take action, and make changes when necessary.
