A moment of honesty here... why you're not making money

Let's be honest guys... if you spend a majority of your time hanging out on this forum you're likely not making much money AT ALL, if even that.

WHY?

Because you're spending your time reading threads on how to make money instead of DOING THINGS to make money.

"But, I'm learning stuffsss!"

No, whats the difference?

Researching niches, building websites, creating optin forms, revising your content copy, split testing your banners/ads, building out your autoresponder sequence, interviewing virtual assistants, doing or hiring (i prefer hiring) people to do SEO, and the list goes on and on.

Now THAT is doing things to make money. And the learning you get in going through the process EVERY DAY is invaluable.

NOW, if you are spending a lot of time on this forum or any forum it should be MOSTLY for marketing purposes... like myself, I have a signature that I promote indirectly to build my list, etc.

Anyways, just think about it... if you spend more time actually DOING THINGS to make money, then you're naturally not going to be on this forum much, logical? Get it?

The doers make money, not the gold rush/opportunity seekers.

ACTION STEPS:
-Build more websites
-Write more articles
-Improve your copywriting skills
-Split test your paid advertising campaigns
-Split test your landing pages
-Research more niches

ONLY after you've attempted a few of those things, THEN come back here and ask targeted questions. And when you do, only spend 10% of your time here doing that.

Peace out girl scouts!

PS. My background is in the dating advice world. And I see the same thing over there with guys who try to get better at dating and improving the quality of girls they date....

The guys that ACTIVELY and CONSISTENTLY go out, talk to women, try to get numbers, try to get dates, and even fail a lot at times, are the ones that improve the most and have the most success.

These guys rarely post on forums and whatever....

And the guys that do post a lot tend to be the ones that take the LEAST action and have the LEAST success.

Just something to think about

I agree with this completely. I used to spend too much time reading about others and what they were doing to make money.

I had to give myself a set amount of time each day to check up on the forums and see what was going on. I also cut down on the forums that I am reading.

Now I will glance over the thread titles and go back to actually working on making money.

It's great to read all day here in the beginning, when you know nothing. But as soon as you start to get the ideas, you need to take action and put those ideas into practice! Yes, you'll mess up sometimes, but you will learn so much more by actually diving in!

When I started reading, I thought "Yeah I'm going to boom a reply and I'll be #1" but when I came to the middle of the post, you disappointed me by already saying what I wanted to say. Yeah, its marketing what you only want to be in forum for.

I have another reason for visiting forums. When I plan to build a product based on a particular topic, I start a discussion to see how many people, specially senior warriors are eager to reply. Then I look at their replies too. This whole study gives me a vivid picture of the demand or public interest on the product. Replies give me ideas too. Then I build a unique product and come back to the forum and sell it.

"Not making 10 times of what I'm making now" - The reason is.... Being really honest here...I'm scared of losing big trying just to multiply my productivity and profit by hiring large number of outsourcers. So, ultimately, I'm either losing time or chance of more profit.

But no more. It's business. And in business you have to be ready for losses as well. So, I'm on my way to take my action to take at least a little more risk.

Take action guys. Whatever you know, whatever you are, leverage it and sell. That's the only way to go. Don't be afraid of making mistakes. And don't make one mistake twice.

Stop buying, start selling. Not everybody needs an outstanding product to sell. Start with whatever you have and reinvest your profit.

If anybody needs me, let me know. I'm ready to help. Thanks asiancasanova for starting this thread.

Although I'm not as active here as I once was, being a regular participant in this particular forum is actually a form of taking action, something a lot of folks miss the point on.

For example, regular and consistent participation helps to:
      • Build Long-Term Credibility
      • Identify Networking Opportunities
      • Find Help And Resources
      • Establish An Audience
      • Increase Overall Revenue

Back in the day when I was really active, I was able to calculate that for each post I spent time and effort making, I was earning approximately $150 through WSO's and other offers.

Now, when you take a look at my post count, do the math and think long and hard about the benefits of actually spending productive time here.

There's a lot more to it than just getting a signature out there - there's a long-term benefit to participation that does have a measurable return.

That said, participating in communities related to the niches you're focusing on is actually a critical part of the process...think about it.
      I don't think there's any discrepancies here.

I clearly say that if you are actively on this forum, it should be for marketing purposes... I.E. the points you mentioned.

And then 10% of the time for be for super focused/targeted questions AFTER taking action.

I think it's pretty common for newbies to live in here. I did at first. But what Mike says here is Exactly Right.

Eventually one needs to find a balance between reading / learning / socializing / and actual networking / brand building.

A lot easier to do once you've actioned enough to be able to contribute information instead of requesting information. I went through my phase of living on here. Then I went through a phase of never looking in this forum for "lack of time".

Then I woke up. And come back every now and then to read, and contribute, to meet new faces, learn from old dogs with super cool tricks, and put my 2 cents out into the world.

But please, don't just come post to get your sig file out there.. it won't work without actual value, not in large numbers and not in sustainable repeatable results.

Good post but just based on experience, the number one reason is people have a GET RICH QUICK mentality. This is actually more lethal to your dreams than procrastinating. Why? When you're procrastinating, you're STILL dreaming. When you have a get rich quick mentality and you put in the effort and fail, your decision to quit effectively KILLS your dream. See the difference?

Another thing to add to this; I think when people who act on the get rich quick mindset (or get rich easily by starting websites and building for 'passive income' only to be disappointed early on) realize the realities of starting up in IM, they either remiss back to the notion that "it didn't work for me, so IM was just not for me" ... or sometimes they give themselves a reality check, get off their a** and try again, repeating this cycle until they finally catch that break.

I think the trick is striking the balance between both, being able to participate and contribute but also focus and get the work done that you know you need to do to succeed. The art of multitasking. But in general I agree with the premise of your post. If you wanna make it happen then you gotta just crank stuff out, in an intelligent manner.

A moment of honesty here... why you're not making money
      I'm sorry, I can't answer the question, as I don't qualify.

Yes, believe it or not, I post here and still get work done all the while making money. Imagine that.

Just because it says I'm online, doesn't mean I'm only on the forum and don't have other windows open or that I'm not working. I like to keep the forum minimized for quick access when I feel the need to surface for some air and need a break.

Afterwards, window minimized again, and back to work.

Things aren't always as they seem.

    Good sound advice.

Remember though that some of us are at a level of understanding and experience that others are not at ....and some will never get to those levels.

This is, and can be a very complicated business and a daunting one with real barriers to entry.

Its complicated further by the honey trap that attracts those who never will be....

You do need to spend a significant amount of time reading and learning, and looking over the should of others when you first start out, but without pulling yourself up by your shoestrings and taking action, you won't get far, no matter how much 'stuffsss' you read.

This over-reading stuffsss is known as analysis paralysis. You keep on reading and reading and reading thinking that the information you get will help you if you just read. The next time you continue reading without any action, the please read this --> "Just Do It!"

my business productivity went up a lot when I stopped posting here many years ago; I'd had at least 2k (maybe 4k even?) posts back in the mid 2000s... though this place is a great one to hang out in and learn things, if I had it all to do over again, I'd "fight the temptation" to be here constantly, limit it to an hour a day or so. easier said than done, I'd been active here for years, years ago (different nick)

WF is a great forum, my favorite in the world. can be very addictive and time consuming if you let it, so put boundaries/timeframe like "morning I'll check it for 20 minutes, then afternoon one more time, up to an hour" or something like that. at least if you run other non-wf related sites outside the IM niche. if you mainly sell in the IM niche, than I'd guess being here a lot more, makes sense.

well these things are for average professionals, folks who created Google, Facebook or Twitter didn't went to any IM forum for marketing their products. They simply did it.

They don't need to buy visitors to their sites because they played game at a very high level. So it depends what you do and how you do?

    Hi Casanova,

that is certainly true in regards to the girls, and most men don't even need a forum to
    learn what to do.

However, in Internet marketing my experience is different. I need(ed) this and other
forums. Before I started studying it on forums I didn't even know it exists let alone
how it works - as opposed to the girls

    Cheers

This is true. I have been spending too much time on different forums without making much money. Once I had stopped it, my earnings increased dramatically. I am still spending too much time on forums, but it is a fraction of what I did before.

This isn't the first time I've seen "not taking action" as the reason to NOT making money online. There are so many people that buy so many training courses, software, etc. but never implement it. The first step to making money online... apply what you've learned and take action!

I've suffered from analysis paralysis and an overabundance of forum reading. Now - I take more action and do less reading. I'm much more selective about which forums I visit and which threads I look at. It's made a big difference in my bottom line. My advice (for what it's worth) - Take Action, the mistakes you make will be invaluable.
