Narrowing the niche: new domain or repurposing the existing one

I have a blog (vbguitar.com) about acoustic fingerstyle guitar with too wide scope. It contains just 30 posts, has 150 backlinks and 15-20 visitors per day. The majority of links are from a couple of guitar forums. I am not making any money from that site right now.

I am new to IM, it was (and still is) my first site and I didn't know anything about IM when I opened it. I would like to narrow the scope of my site significantly. Recently I did some research and found a micro niche I am interested in. The corresponding keywords have a few thousand searches per day, the decent CPC and level of competition.

There are exactly matching domain names available for these keywords. Would you recommend to:
a) repurpose the existing domain,
b) redirect it to tne new domain, or
c) drop the old domain, register a new one and start from scratch?

I'll appreciate your advices,
Vlad

Don't redirect it. Just update your SEO plugin to reflect the new keyword. Change your structure. You might need to use plugins that do 301 redirection. Don't start from scratch.

nope I would open that new domain and post to it, and then link to the original one (if the niche is close enough) Make absolutley sure you have a ebook or something of value to offer the visitors. Very few people buy on the first visit.
Maybe a couple chapters of the content you're selling as an enticer.

Start building sites around your money site to get some G juice going

It strikes me that Acoustic Fingerstyle is a tiny niche. You are probably getting all the people who are searching for this phrase to your website. I think you need to find some killer keywords and use them to get traffic. Broaden things out a bit.

I found one of these keywords (In the same niche) 3 years ago and it pays me handsomely. Most of my visitors visit one of my pages. All the other pages are window dressing.

The micro niche site model still works, it's just not as easy as it was 2 years ago.

Personally I would keep the existing domain and monetize it with CPA or Adsense, that is in conjunction with the content you already have there. I.e. dont replace all of the current content with ads.

Build out your MNS with an EMD. Target LSI keywords in your content so that way you will have the opportunity to capitalize on more search traffic. If you're going to build successful MNS's you need to keep adding fresh content to them every now and again.

There's always a possibility that your MNS could end up being an authority site. Then can make some serious cash.

      Thanks a lot for replies.

I will keep the current domain name and site itself, but will update the title and all other SEO-related components and existing articles to reflect the new keyword.

That new niche is a subset of the current one, and yes, it's about acoustic guitar again but with much narrow scope. I see it as an authority site focused on one specific playing technique. If I add 30-50 very targeted articles and a few hundreds backlinks via Youtube, forums and blogs, it should be able to make the first page on Google and probably will make me a few hundred bucks per a month via CPA and/or Adsense. That should be enough for me to start from :-)

      Regards,
      Vlad
