I have a blog that's associated with recipes. Can anyone advise on what is the best way to monetise the site?

Thanks

Start a paid email newsletter where you give a certain number of recipes to subscribers. You could charge $5-10 a month to get started then increase over time.

If you want to go a step further, you can go to your local Board of Nutrition and get them certified as "healthy" then charge more. Getting a major endorsement with boost the perceived value exponentially.

Or.... You could buy something like Wishlist Member and protect all your content and charge for a membership to your blog. You can offer free "general" content but password protect the recipes to entice and encourage people to become a member.

    Hope it helps!

      This, a newsletter.

      Plus an ebook.

      Plus Adsense and affiliate offers.

You can add AdSense. You can sell recipes books from amazon. Or you can approach your local restaurants and sell them ad space on your site.

  • Robg1,

Those are some very thoughtful ideas from MarketingMinded. You could also use some type of ad program like Adsense. This would allow your content to remain free for users. The only drawback here is that sometimes ads on a blog turn people off to visiting.

Another idea is creating a free ebook of recipes that you could market on the blog. If users like your content they may be enticed to download a copy of the book.

If you plan on building the site out with lots of content then start building a list for starters

you could give them a free report on something like "7 mouth watering recipes that you can cook in 10 minutes"

or even give them some videos giving cooking tips

then you could create a paid product and sell it to your list

another way to make money is to have some amazon affiliate links scattererd around where you recommend certain cook books and maybe add some adsense a bit too

there is also some clickbank products that would be a good fit in your niche as well

you have plenty of things that you can do, so get cracking :-)

See what other recipe blogs/sites are doing, then do it better. You don't have to reinvent the wheel here. I'm actually a target member of your niche now (I'm trying to learn how to cook), and if you want my opinion (keep in mind it is just one) you can learn some things from this site:

From my own opinion there are 3 things you can do:

    1. Put ad sense on it
    2. Sell ads on your site.
    3. Promote affiliate products related to recipe, cooking, food e.t.c.

You might have to test and see what works best for you.

yeah that's a good keyword. I started one with the Muffin. but couldn't go so far
the number of visitors were very low. I don't know about yours. But if you have visitors then you can use them for CPA. or selling your own recipe book. the best.

Researching what your competitors are doing and trying to mimic or one up their strategy is a start,

I would gather some emails by offering a free ebook on some quality recipes. Once you have their emails provide valuable/quality content to your list, and when you have established some trust you can offer some kind of paid product you created.

Promoting some Amazon affiliate links is always an easy way to start generating some income too.

    Best of Luck!

Submit to blog directories... submit your blog RSS feed to the rss feed directories. Use social media to drive traffic to your blog. Use forums, videos, and blog everyday. Make your blog your homepage, and promote it everywhere relevant.

Build a list! Seriously. Then have an autoresponder series that has affiliate links for different targeted cookbooks, online cooking schools that offer affiliate commissions, Amazon stuff like knives, pots & pans, and CPA offers for spices and free food samples. There are a lot of things. Get creative

The answer to that question is always... build a list, proactively, so that you can market to these folks even when they're off site. This is true no matter what other method you use on-site for monetization... since recycling your traffic will increase your visitors dramatically.
