5 Biggest Mistakes You Made as a Newbie

A bad example can be as powerful as a good example, so, let's see if we can help some of the newbies here by sharing some of our mistakes before we started making money in Internet marketing. Here are my mistakes:

1. Spending money when I wasn't ready yet because I didn't have a good understanding of marketing.
2. Not being focused enough on one technique and being distracted by the next shiny object.
3. Getting impatient when results weren't immediate and giving up.
4. Trying to find shortcuts when there's no substitute for old fashioned hard work.
5. Making things more complicated than they had to be.

I have 4 I should of started from the get go.

    1. Not building a list a.s.a.p
    2. I agree with Paul about the outsourcing part thank God for Fiverr
    3. Paid traffic same as Paul again you just have to find a paid traffic source where you continuosly make a good r.o.i.
    4. And I would not of wasted my time writing articles back in the day I would of published them first to my own blog and then submit them to the article directories after they were indexed by the search engines.

Note: I do not do article marketing and I have not for the past 2 - 3 years and that is the way I like it

I made so many mistakes when I started that it's really hard to limit it to five ...

But in terms of "directly preventing me from earning money" (which I didn't, for months), I'll mention these five ...

      (i) Not starting to build a list on day one
(ii) Not understanding the difference between article marketing and article directory marketing
(iii) Outsourcing things I didn't know how to do myself, rather than learning first and then deciding whether/how to outsource
(iv) Promoting ClickBank products with high gravities and a vendor's opt-in on their sales pages
      (v) Relying on the consensus of opinion expressed in forums on subjects I knew very little about

Any one of those five was probably enough to prevent my earning anything. And I could add another five so easily, too ...

    fun topic, here are mine.

1: trying to find a low competitive ninche with a lot of traffic.
2: Always trying to find a way to make things easier (to avoid the hard work)
    3: give up to fast.
4: not taking list building seriously
5: buying to al lot wso's and never did something with it.

    My main four:

    1) Didn't start list building right away
    2) Not focusing on one project at a time
    3) Not putting in the work to benefit from certain SEO methods
    4) Not asking questions to the people who knew what they were talking about

My mistakes and my thoughts :

-Bought 100+ domains that I didn't need and had no clue how to monetize .

-Starting without having a proper plan as IM is as easy as get rich pushing a few buttons and without spending a penny.

-Not focusing to run one model of business and give up easily .

-List building sucks !! why should I pay $$$ to autoresponders to collect freebie seekers and I was wrong .

-The most costly mistake I made is be a victim of well written copy sales letters that got me believing that I needed just that one last thing that was going to change my life for ever and add millions to my bank account .

For me, the thing about these threads, when you really think about it, is how difficult they make "earning a living online" look.

You look back like this and you find yourself thinking what a miracle it is that you ever ended up making a living at all ...

    Procrastinating on list building..
I went well over a year until I decided to get started building a list.
I then wasted months on SEO, articles, plugins, popups etc and all the traditional slow list building methods.

Then, for some reason, one day, I said.. hey, my time is worth a boatload more than this.. why not try some paid techniques.
I've never looked back since that day.
That single moment of inspiration took me from IM roadkill to a gradual full time income.

    My biggest mistakes?

    1. Focusing on what I was doing wrong.
    2. Paying too much attention to my mistakes.
    3. Not focusing on my strengths.
    4. Not investing enough time in figuring out what I was doing right.
    5. Thinking that there was some "secret" mistake that was holding me back.

    Suggestion: Read "Acres of Diamonds"

    All the best,

EDIT BY MODERATOR: Why does your location say "Chicago" when your IP is in Romania?
I'm staying in Romania for a while but I'm from Chicago, is there a problem?

Im still a newbie and making mistakes every day.

Here are the mistakes Im likely making:

    1. Don't have a list
    2. Not in a major niche
    3. Pissed off Google with too many ads above the fold
    4. Saving my best ideas for last: WeightLoss niche/ebook + an SEO submission service; ie plan on branding both and not relying on google. Both should work with pay traffic.

my biggest mistake was not building a list......

my next mistake was spending more time on themes rather than content...

everybody makes mistakes its how we learn from them that is important

ok I do not have to talk about all the mistakes I made...but heck...newbies should get down to about the second of third posts.....and see this..

I did not start building a bloody list.

    There is your hint.

When i did this, my income, and whole lifestyle changed very quickly.

So That is the biggest mistake I made, not building a list. Do that, and do it properly and you will be astounded with the results.

If you are not building a list in this game, you are bound to lose, technically speaking.

Imagine having just 10k people on your list, who know and trust you. I have these in many niches, and there is nothing more powerful than this.
