Is RSS feed useful anymore?

Hey everyone,

I never really took full advantage of RSS feeds before and now that I'm researching it again it sounds like a lot of people are saying that the days of RSS feed being useful are gone.

Is it even worth spending time on feeds anymore? Thoughts?

In my opinion, RSS feeds are still very useful and important. They can still bring you traffic.

EDIT BY MODERATOR: Why does your location say "Chicago" when your IP is in Romania?
I'm staying in Romania for a while but I'm from Chicago, is there a problem?

So even with social media becoming as big of a deal as it has, RSS is still a useful option. Interesting.

So does the basic Google RSS feed get the job done or do I want to be looking into some other kind off RSS software?

That depends on what you want to do with an RSS feed. If you want to read it, then any RSS reader would do just fine. But if you want to use it tocreate links back to your site you might need some other kind of software to make it easier to submit your feed to feed aggregator sites.

I always want to create backlinks and generate some more quality SEO, so do you have any aggregators that you would recommend?

For software to do that submission I have used RSS Bot from IncanSoft and that has a number of aggregators listed in it. This is a blanket strategy, so the more aggregators you can find, the better off for backlinks you will be.

And the links are not particularly valuable, but are pretty normal looking for a diverse link portfolio.

GONE??? Crazy!!! They are very usefull, but try harder to make good use of them, don't let it just to seat there. Submit your RSS to RSS directories and social media sites... Then you will feel the difference!

I have been wondering about this myself. Is there a benefit to using it compared to some indexing services?

RSS feeds are still important but do not consider it as fresh content on your site. You still have to add fresh unique content or you will suffer a Panda Penalty

Its not true, Rss feed still remains one of seo best methods. It helps to distribute headlines and new contents and also notifications. It is still as important as they before.

RSS can be very useful for email marketing! It's a great way to currate content from your blogs/sites and from others. In fact, we just released an enhanced RSS to email feature because of demand for it.

I have personally benefitted from having other sites RSS feeds on my website ... especially feeds that update constantly and consistently. Google spiders my site with those feeds and people come into my site because of the search terms used by them. Also, it seems that whenever Google visits your site and you have new content, the more it visits. I have sites that Google crawls 3000+ times a month.

Since the RSS feed titles come and go, I find the ones that bring in organic traffic into my site and create my own website articles with them.
