I am new -- and EXCITED!

Hello!

I am new to the forum and want to say hello. First, my name is Sarah Carter and I live just outside Vancouver, BC. I stumbled upon Ed Dale's "30 Day Challenge" and that opened my eyes to what all of you are doing -- and I must say I was shocked.

Reading the threads here is proving to be overwhelming. There is so much to learn and I am unsure where to start. I guess that is my first question...

If you were starting over from scratch, where would you start your learning?

  • List building
  • Copywriting
  • Traffic generation
  • Adwords
  • Product Creation
Or something else? I know I could go on and on!

Welcome to the Warrior Forum Sarah

I look forward to seeing you around. Nobody can answer your question without knowing what YOU want to achieve...

Define a path for yourself and then learn or pay to learn, what you need to in order to travel that path.

Choose a business model for yourself

    Product Creation or Affiliate Marketing

    Adsense sites or blogging

There are many options and only you can decide which one you want to do... each one will have it's own unique skill sets to be learned..

I wish you the greatest success!

    Peace

Thanks for your quick reply Jay!

      Hmmmm... A path?

I want to make passive income, so that my business works around my lifestyle. I don't want my life as it is now. I hate having to trade time for $$$, and that is what I do as a freelancer.

I am not a fan of Adsense, for the sake of not wanting to put my whole livelihood in the hands of Google. If Google should change their TOS (terms of service) many people here would be hurting. I don't want to be one of them. So I guess that means...

      Owning my own product.

I like the Ed Dale and Frank Kern Underachiever business model. Frank makes over a million selling dog training -- passively! -- and that sounds awful nice!

      Smiles,

      Sarah

Welcome Sarah. If i were you, i would start on list building for long term, but for short term, maybe do blogging combined with CPA marketing.

Thanks hidman, I am more of a long-term kinda girl. I don't want to waste effort -- so your list building vote appeals to me more.

Plus I have NO idea what CPA is!

Hey Sarah, nice to see you here. I started about 4 months ago so I'm not too far ahead of you. The first thing I did was read, read, read... as much as I could take.. I still read hours everyday just to learn. There is a ton of great information on the Internet, and just these forums alone. Next thing I did was purchase a reseller hosting account (I use hostgator) and learned how to set up both cpanel and run a Wordpress Blog. Once you're familiar with the tools of the trade go start doing research on a niche and focus on good keywords that have low competition. Then start writing articles for your site, focus on those keywords .. study up on SEO ... Once you are comfortable running your site and watching its traffic start thinking of ways to monetize your niche site.

The idea is you want to be an authority in your field. Even before I started learning about IM, I would immedietly know which sites were crap and had recycled information, and which ones were quality.

Research different affiliate programs specific to your niche, check out clickbank, get a google adsense account.

From there you basically focus on content and driving traffic ... Most of the set up work allows for the site to run on autopilot.. One thing I'm noticing is you get out what you put into it .. So far I have 2 sites running that I'm focusing attention on and I've already made an affiliate sale and got some adsense clicks .. I average about 40 visitors a day on both sites, probably 70% social and 30% organic traffic...

Now those don't seem like the best numbers but I really haven't been focusing on building them up and promoting them hardly at all. Mainly spending my time being a human sponge .. So just the minimal effort I've put in is starting to pay off..

This is just a brief overview of course, Good luck!

Awesome advice Monopuff! I think we are on the same wave-length... so I will read while determining what niche to explore.

I like the AUTHORITY advice. That will be important to remember!

      Sarah

PS: Love the ramen reference in your profile. Being 1/2 Asian I can relate!

    Hi Sarah,

I have a rather simple approach to this... You need two things - traffic and a way to monetize it. So choose either one of these and start from there. If you can drive traffic really cheap then start there - you'll always find ways to monetize this traffic. If you know if a really great product/offer/etc. - any kind of monetizing model - then start from there - you'll always come up with ways to drive traffic.

Jay is right - choose a model. Just start from the top, from the most basic elements, and work your way down. And as far as I know traffic and monetizing it is as basic as you can get it online (and offline for that matter).

    Hope this helps!

Aloha Sarah and welcome to the forum

FYI, "CPA" is an acronym for "Cost Per Acquisition". When you promote a CPA offer the idea is usually to get the visitor to fill out a form with their name, e-mail and possibly some other information (ZIP code, full address). You are paid a flat rate for every visitor you send to the CPA site who fills out the required form. If the visitor goes on to buy a product or not is irrelevant (at least to you it is), you are paid simply for getting the lead.

I wouldn't recommend CPA as something to begin with, it's better for established sites with considerable traffic. However that's just my opinion!

The one piece of advice I could give you is to do some initial exploring, find something that you think is suitable for you (i.e. affiliate marketing in a popular niche that appeals to you) and focus on that. My biggest problem in IM has been lack of focus, with literally dozens of different ways to make money online it can be hard to resist the temptation to try them all. But the best results always seem to be with doing one thing and doing it well.

    Best of luck

Hawaii eh? You must be making millions in order to afford to live there!

Thanks for cluing me in on the CPA thingy. That does sound like it is something for more advanced marketers.

Hey Sarah Let Me Also Welcome You To The Community

Ok I know exactly what you are going through.

There is so much info here to grasp with so many different business models and your enthusiasm is just pumping to go head on. But first take a deep breath.

Before you get into any form of business model, be it affiliate marketing or product creation think really hard about what you want to achive from IM.

You stated earlier that you want passive income.

Think for the long run what can get you there?
Is it selling $47 ebooks and trying to make at least 50 sales per month?

Or would you rather spend a few months building a huge list that you can make money from over and over.

My advice to you is chose a business model that you know works for someone very successful and master it. On of the mistakes we often make is to hop from one program to another before even mastering any of them.

So Stay focus on one thing and you will achieve your goal.

Remember you have the warior forum behing you to help you every step of the way.

          Good luck

          Ah yes, the negative one-liner.

Actually, Mr. Tram I fully intend to be completely filled with...

          • OPTIMISM
          • EXCITEMENT
          • WONDER
          • PASSION
          • PERSISTENCE
I might be able to bottle up some of the EXCITEMENT I am feeling in an old Coke bottle and mail it off to you!

But of course I have a feeling that instead of drinking my magic potion, you would pour it out on the ground and turn in the bottle for a 5 cent deposit.

A metaphor for poor thinking vs. abundance thinking?

I would recommend finding a mentor or if you can't find one then the other best alternative is to teach yourself. The way to teach yourself is to find articles and see what other people are recommending, I did this and I have managed to learn a lot

    Hi Sarah,

Welcome and learn something new here.
Maybe you should learn something bout list building first.
In any business, business = list.
    No list = no business.
    That's what i'm teached before.

    Hi Sarah:

Welcome to the Forum. Sometimes a path is laid out and other times you find it taking a sudden direction. Why not soak up all the knowledge you can and determine if you would like to begin with a specific topic, follow that with a blog, plug some affiliate products. You may determine you enjoy writing and will be submitting articles to the different sites. Whatever you decide be determined and if something looks to good or too easy it usually has a big RED FLAG.

    Have a great week.

    Welcome Sarah,

Poke around here...get the 'feel' for who the 'Helpers' are vs the 'Players. See who the other members recommend for specific problem solving.

Check out how many posts/thank yous received they have (although not a definitive guideline) and try Googling their name. This forum is anything you want it to be.

Be respectful...avoid negative energy...and beware of those who want you to pull you into 'the best way to make money online' deal (that they just so happen to be selling). It comes down to this...learn as much as you can...listen to those who are doing what you want to do...and work focused at it.

Just so you know...I am new to this type of marketing and have a lot to learn. Ed Dale is a great guy isn't he? Take care and I wish you well,

    Welcome Sarah

I wouold say to someone starting out to create 2 products

1 to sell and offer to affiliates to sell for you
2 a free product that you would use as a pop up on your sales page to get numbers on your list

After you have done this you can expand from there and their are many ideas on here on how to go about this with ideas of building the traffic to those products.
