Google.com got beaten by Facebook

I have checked out the alexa rank and currently Google is number 2, i think this thing happened yesterday. Through in my opinion Google did got beaten by Facebook, because if you have a look at the top 500 sites alexa the first part are from Google's side (blogspot, youtube,). So technically Google is not beaten because it cannot be compared to Facebook, Google has more domains available world wide and a bigger market coverage, but still a big step for facebook.
How do you think this change will affect the world of internet marketing?
#beaten #facebook #googlecom

When you say "beaten" do you mean facebook has more revenue and income than Google? Because if not, then Alexa rank is irrelevant... No, nothing will change and IM will not be affected... FB is destined to be gone in few more years when people realize that adds are not converting...

I don't think it worry google,it is the more stable internet business model than facebook

    • Facebook had only $1bln in revenue last year don`t know if they had a profit , Google had few $bln in profit so google has much more sustainable business model

This isn't new. It's happened on a number of occasions. In my opinion, it's nothing to worry about.

Well facebook can introduce features which will make people come and find content to read and not go to google to search for it. I think it's is already planning that.

Facebook still has monetization issues. Google, on the other hand, is a cash machine.

Here is how the top is made:
The sites in the top sites lists are ordered by their 1 month alexa traffic rank.

The 1 month rank is calculated using a combination of average daily visitors and pageviews over the past month. The site with the highest combination of visitors and pageviews is ranked #1.
That means more people spend more time on Facebook than on Google. If we consider the ideas behind these website I guess it's normal - Facebook is about spending time there, interacting with other people there, while Google is about finding something and leaving this website after you find what you are looking for.

Taking that into consideration, if people spend a lot of time on Facebook than Facebook serves its purpose.
Also if people stay less on Google it may indicate that they found what they were looking for faster, and Google also served its purpose.

Mate, Google is still Google. Perhaps, Facebook is still on the first level of what Google has already accomplished long time ago.

The traffic is not equal in terms of commercial intent, people often go to google looking for a solution to a problem.

An example may be that you have 2 websites about life insurance and baby names, the baby names site may get 10000 visits per day more than the life insurance website but still does not make as much money as the " visitor value" is a lot less.

The internet is big enough to support a couple of heavyweights and it's always a good thing to have 4 or 5 big companies in one industry, instead of one with a monopoly, the old saying "power corrupts" comes to mind..

We can compare Facebook and Google anyway - they are really two completely different things. Google is a search engine and Facebook is a social networking site. Oh yeah, I forgot, Google does have Google + don't they or is that still around?

For the short run I think it is not so interesting... But in the link run I presume that Facebook can become the next best search engine to Google. For me Facebook is not better for promotion any websites but for results Facebook can be better than Google.
    What you people think?

What a bunch of strange comments. Certainly this is a VERY BIG DEAL. The average internet surfer now spends more time on Facebook than any other website online.

I bet people at Google aren't taking this news as lightly as the average commenter here is. People's tastes change. Google might be starting to slip.

What is the percentage of people who spend their 4 to 6 hours surfing facebook actually buys online through facebook ads? yes, people are spending time with facebook but when they feel like they are buying something, they just type amazon or google in their adress bar.... facebook is irrelevant when it comes to marketing - mingling - yes.

Just because you don't take advantage of Facebook ads doesn't mean that other people don't.

[YES] People on Facebook click on ads
[YES] People purchase products after clicking on said ads

Some times people mistake what Facebook advertising should be used for, its potential is to grow a facebook group, now what do you do with the group the same thing you do with an email list, milk it.

Just becuase Alexa says that it ranks higher doesnt mean anything. Both Google and Facebook are obviously the big dogs. But i think soon we will see facebook competiting head and head.
In my opinion i think Facebook will release the following:
    1) search engine to compete with Google
    2) A more dynamic video platform to compete with Youtube
    3) Expansion with instagram to compete more with flickr
    4) possibly a browser to compete with chrome, ie9, firefox maybe?

This is hype without substance. Google operates several of the top sites on the Internet: YouTube, Google.com & BlogSpot to name a few.

Add them up and you have a company firmly wedged in #1 for a long time.

Stop picking favorites - both have good advertising platforms to leverage.

Hey, do you search Facebook for Auto parts, or anything else?

Comparing G from FB is like comparing apples from oranges.

Google and Facebook are both useful in internet marketing. While most of revenue comes from Google, we still need social media like facebook to get connected with our subscribers and establish our credibility as an expert. Building trust = more sales.

I think all eyes should stay focused on what matters the money. Google rakes in the big bucks and facebook is struggling.

It's really like comparing the guy getting 10k hits a day giving away free stuff to the guy getting 2k hits a day getting paid.

Yeah I have to agree with the Apples and Oranges things...

Seems like one site's goal is to send you to other sites, while the other site's goal is to keep you there playing games and talking to friends and devoting your entire world to it.

The car commercials with the son or daughter talking about how they have thousands of friends and their parents are so pathetic is funny. The parents are shown using the new car to experience life through adventures instead of a facebook page.
