A little frustrated...

I keep bookmarking threads that are of high value written by members who clearly have some great ideas only to find that they keep getting nuked.

I have reviewed the rules several times to try and figure out what these members are doing to have their threads bombed, and cannot figure it out.

Is anyone else running into this? I mean these are literally the ideal types of threads. No arguing, no **** measuring contests... just full of great information and value from multiple contributors.

Then I click on a bookmark a few days later to find the thread is nuked.

Anyone else running into this?

It feels like I need to start cut and pasting threads and saving them to disk to make sure that good content doesn't get wiped. That's an annoying "feature" to have in a forum.

Argh.

I think you are bookmarking the wrong threads. Some of it might be here:

I'm not sure if you mean the wrong threads as in the content is bad, or the wrong threads as in I'm having trouble using bookmarks.

The latter is not the case as the bookmarks were working until the thread was deleted.

In the case of the former, while I may still be in the throes of being experienced enough to differentiate between high-value posts and low-value posts, I feel pretty confident that these were great posts!

Use the "thread tools" link in the lower toolbar and save those threads as "print copy" and you'll have them.

If they were nuked, there was a reason.

    Hi

Sometimes the thread is posted in an inappropriate forum and moved... say from the Main Discussion forum to the SEO forum.

In those cases it may appear to be deleted if you use a bookmark to the original thread, when it is still 'alive' just in another forum.

Try searching for the thread title and seeing if it was just moved.

But I too have seen threads I thought were good get deleted. Not much we can do- there usually is a reason we are unaware of.

I can promise you .. the mods here have saw it all. There are so many things happening on here that most of us have no idea is happening.

A small suggestion for the mods might be to simply lock and block. I've seen this used on other forums where content is simply locked, and any violations are blocked out of the post(s).

It takes a little more management and I can appreciate that the mods are volunteering their effort, so this may not scale given the traffic here.

I don't necessarily have a great idea for managing this (other than bringing on more mods), but I'll at least throw out that seed.

For example, if someone writes an amazing post, but violates a signature rule, this might be an opportunity for a temp ban + sig removal, but lock and leave the post!

      Just a few thoughts.

The simple answer is to save posts/threads you want to keep on your own computer.

Some threads are locked when the info is worth leaving in place - others are deleted. Many reasons for doing that and the mods here are very good at what they do.

          Agree.

I always do File - Save As if I want to keep a thread... Always!!!

Sometimes great threads get nuked, because someone showed up to start slinging mud...

If a thread I am watching disappears, I always check Google Cache to see how much of the thread was saved, and often, I discover why it was nuked in the first place...
