Buying an Expired Domain and Redirecting - Does it Work?

Hi,
I'd like to know whether this technique works or not - You buy an expired domain which has a PR and about 500-1000 backlinks. You then 301 redirect this domain to the domain you want to promote in the search engines.

Will the new domain get the benefit from the backlinks and start raking soon?

Has anyone tried it before? Please share your experiences.

    Nope. Once the domain expires, backlinks and PR means nothing. Backlinks to homepage will only be valuable if you rerun the site...

      The backlinks still remain specially if they are many. If we redirect the domain to an new domain, the backlinks will point to the new domain automatically because it will be a 301 redirect. Thats what I believe.
