I dunno if I can post this here, but I feel like I need to let it out after all the info I've taken in these past three days. Alright, I just found out about this forum after reading lots of info on IM. I got into it when I heard someone I was subscribed to on Youtube was able to live on his own because he "developed websites solely for the purpose of gaining ad revenue off of them." I thought that was pretty cool, because he lived in a nice apartment and drove a decent car and whatnot. I thought to myself that if I can do the same thing and make enough to live on my own, I'd be satisfied with myself. I went to this private forum I go to, and I found out that some guy was offering an "online business kit" for $100. I thought nothing of it since it was so expensive for me at the time, but eventually he actually let it out for free. I didn't read the instructions included and just followed them until I realized that I didn't know what I was doing with some of it. I couldn't get the website up or anything, and he wasn't offering any help unless I payed him $20. So I asked someone else who had gone through the process, and he said he didn't want any more competition, that he also had to pay for the coaching, etc. It was reasonable, but I got a little pissed and wrote back saying that the "coach" was scamming us by giving out incomplete instructions and then making us pay for his minimal input. The guy cried out about how I defamed the coach, and he messaged me saying how it was a business and whatnot. I got even more pissed, but I knew I was wrong anyway. So, instead of following this guy's instructions, I went out and searched for some no-BS book on how to get started with IM, knowing that probably 99% of it was a scam. But I found the Rich Jerk, and that seemed pretty damn good. I still have it open right now so I can reference back to it. Anyway, my friend told me that since he has unlimited subdomains and whatnot, he can let me host some websites. So I made my first site: A ****ty, small "business letter" site, modeled just after the one in The Rich Jerk's eBook. I put it in maybe five directories and now it's sitting there. That was the day before yesterday, and I can't really check how much traffic it's getting because it's not actually my domain. I still don't have any money to do anything. And no, this isn't much of a plea for help, but I wouldn't mind if anyone could point me in the right direction for free traffic, though I'll look for myself. The next day I made another, slightly less ****ty site. I'm gonna update that one until I get up to some sort of standard, because it's absolutely horrendous right now. I might as well have made an angelfire site or something. I'm using xsitepro, though. I submitted that site to a few more directories than the last, but I still don't know how to get any traffic to it other than maybe using Google Adwords, and I don't know enough about it anyway. I don't want to lose my remaining $17. Ugh. I'm gonna improve both pages to make them appealing enough to make people want to buy, and all the while I'll be looking at some more Adwords guides and info. I don't want to get rich or anything, I want just enough. |

I don't know to tell you about your sites because you haven't shown them to us. My best advice though, just start reading this forum and don't stop for several days. Since you said you don't know much about websites and the like, I would advise you to stay away from adwords for a long while until you get your feet wet in IM. Unless you want to lose that last $17 dollars and much more really quickly -Rebtl |

Thanks for the nice replies. Here are my two websites: real-dieting-programs dot ancientms dot info and real-dating-guides dot ancientms dot info I figured the names shouldn't be too great since people seem to buy into that stuff anyway. But as you can see, they're extremely plain, they were made using templates (though I dunno if the typical buyer would notice), and they're modeled just after Rich Jerk's little business letter in his eBook. All I've done is submit them to the free directories in the same book, and the friend that's letting me use his hosting is linking to the first one from his homepage, which I heard helps with search engine results. Basically what I'm gonna do is update and improve the second site. I'll add pictures, more information, a section for articles, and everything else to make it more appealing. But I still don't know how to get a decent amount of traffic to it. I need to do some homework for college, and I don't know if IM is gonna work out for me, so that's still my first priority :P |
