How To Generate Big Blog Traffic From Reddit?

Have you used Reddit to generate traffic to your blogs/websites? How has been your experience?
I used it a while ago and could not understand it well and gave up

I use Reddit, it really depends on luck and getting the category right, if people see it in the right category they will click on it and vote it making it rank higher in Reddit resulting in more traffic and votes. In my experience I have seen some pages unexpectedly go viral and some only get 1 or 2 views, so it depends I know you can buy votes but don't know hw well it works.

      Goodness!
      Do people buy votes

There is just one thing I just can't understand:

You make dozens of comments and they appear and you even collect link Karma but what happens to the post you share...It just shows from your account while other do not see them at all.

My other question is related to Link Karma....Do you need to collect it about a hundred? Some said, they won't accept your links (even if they are relevant) until you collect a lot of link and comment karma.

Comment Karma is OK but if they don't allow your links then how are you supposed to collect it

Yep, I get thousands of visitors per month.

Not massive subscribers because they don't need my product, but it's built up my daily traffic.

This is an example of mine that was at the top of the sub-forum yesterday. I just include a link at the bottom Can Lucid Dreaming Make Your Rich In Real Life? : LucidDreaming

Your Reddit profile shows you have just 3 link Karma but 69 comment Karma....It gets me more confused. Does this mean link Karma doesn't matter at all

And one should focus on participating in others' threads/discussions?

By my question still remains unanswered.
I wanted to know what makes a post appear or disappear from Reddit?
I have seen some posts from The New York Times and WSJ to be buried with just a few comments..But they keep appearing on Reddit.

Just a month ago some one picked up one of my blog posts (which was about Tom and Jerry) and it send hundreds of visitors...In fact this was what made me know about Reddit...So I joined and posted a link of three of my posts and none of them appeared for more than some minutes.

My husband yelled, "You should spend time on it and understand how it works and comment on others' posts."

Reddit really looks interesting...I like its massive threads and they are really interesting

All submitted content will be at www.reddit.com/r/XXXXX under the "new" tab. There is a limited time period of a few days where it stays there and can pull in traffic, and hopefully get upvoted to the subreddit first page. If it doesn't get upvoted, it slides down the "new" rankings until it is out of site. If there are enough upvotes in enough time, it may hit Reddit's front page. There's not "method", no "rules", no "magic tricks". Put up content that Redditors care about (hint: cats, athiesm, rage comics).

To understand Reddit you must first understand that it is a community of sub-communities, they are called sub-reddits each has it's own set of subscribers and moderators. Each sub-reddit is specific to a particular interest. There is a sub-reddit for just about anything you can imagine.

Looking at your signature I would thing that you might have some success posting in the sub-reddit know as Get Motivated, and perhaps Entrepreneur.

There are two things that make or break a post on Reddit. The first is the mods or moderators, they have the first choice of whether a post will be allowed or removed. Each subreddit (sub category) has it's own set of mods. Second are the subscribers to the sub-reddits, they have the ability to vote up or down any submission.

When submitting a post to Reddit the first most important thing is that you select the correct sub-reddit, if you don't it will immediately be down-voted because it's not related to the interest of the community.

Choose a title that will get attention but doesn't sound like blog-spam. Redditors hate blog-spam. When submitting a post to Reddit your user name should not be related in any way to the content your submitting, Redditors do not like self-submissions. If your domain is Success Stories then your reddit user name should not be Success Stories. Be a value to the community and add useful content/comments and you'll gain respect from the sub-communities. If a person submit links from only one or two websites they will be seen as a spammer, and as I mentioned Reddit hates spam and spammers.

Here is a list of all the sub-reddits.

As far as the question, regarding The New York Times and WSJ, well these days Reddit has been compromised and yes there are paid posters and commenters very similar to the old Digg Bury brigades. This is true particularly to political opinions and spreading propaganda. As far as posts continuing to show up, this is again due to propaganda and the simple fact that a post can now be submitted multiple time. In the past when a link was submitted that already existed, a duplicate, it wouldn't be allowed again, you would simply be referred to the existing post.

If you stick to the smaller sub-reddits you will not have to worry too much about getting buried by down-votes.

EDIT: It's also important to know that as your link gains popularity in the sub-reddit it will start to appear to others in the main-Reddit-loop(for lack of a better choice of words) which is basically a collection of popular posts from all categories, that's what you see on the homepage and subsequent pages.

That's about it, that's how Reddit works. Hope this helps.

You answered all my questions and I can't express in words how grateful I am for your priceless information. Many thanks

By the way, I appear on Reddit with the same name (my real name) and you had a very good guess that I posted the articles on GetMotivated

                      So the lessons learnt are:

                      1. Create unique titles and post them to the relevant categories/sub-categories.

                      2. Do not shoot too many posts and get banned; instead, focus on participating in others' threads

                      3. Spend some time and create your strong presence

Karma on reddit is a reputation system. The more Karma you have the better the redditor you are. Its not possible to spam your links on reddit since redditors check profiles A LOT! you would have to follow the redditor trends to not get cought. EX: posting memes, posts with the tag: "how i feel when" They also look for how old your account is.

I think it would be hard to make money on reddit. The only thing i think would be useful would be to boost your traffic rates. Another thing about reddit is that they are sticklers for original content. But love cats for some reason... Take a pic of your cat. have a cleaver post title. Make sure its cute and link it to your blog. its kind of a one time post though. and you cant consistently link your blog because they will see that as promotion.

Like i said. You would have to post Redditesque Topics every couple of day and then slip in your site to get the traffic boost. But even then. What your posting has to be something interesting to reddit for them to upvote it. lol its a careful formula.

One thing that will make a subject line disappear is if the first 2 votes are down votes. That is very easy to happen. I don't think there has ever been a topic on reddit that someone didn't down vote.

One of their humor sections mentions 'unfunny stuff will be down voted mercilessly.' They encourage it when appropriate.

They aren't much interested in anything but free entertainment. I had a few thousand visitors to one page and doubt if I made more than 5 cents.

To the myriad posts I've seen saying this: Do not just keep sharing your blog posts. If you repeatedly keep sharing your blog and your blog alone in Reddit you will:

      1. Become reviled in the community. This means people may form vendettas against you, immediately down vote your site when they see a link, or just flat out ignore your posts.

      2. Become hated by subreddit moderators. The moderators of subreddits get a better feel for what is being posted in their subreddit than regular posters. They treat their forum as if it is their baby. They don't want their forum clogged up. If all that you're submitting is your own site, they'll take notice. They could delete your posts, accuse you of "gaming" or "spamming," or worse, ban you.

You need to choose your posts carefully. Choose work that you are especially proud of. As many posters have previously mentioned in this topic, try to contribute to the community and offer your links sparingly and once in a while.

the Reddit community (and it is very much a community) will teach you one of the golden rules of using sharing sites and social media to spread your blog: don’t spam your posts and expect to get positive feedback, or even interest.

Reddit hates people who only submit their own content, and they also take a strong stance against what they believe is “gaming the system” by using Reddit simply to get visitors to your blog.

I agree that sub-Reddits are the way to go. Find a couple related to your niche, comment and vote on posts - become part of the community.
Whilst I've generated some traffic from Reddit, it hasn't been of great quality - high bounce rate etc.

Didn't know much about reddit. I was posting my link once a week but didn't really explore too much of it. Sometimes I got nice traffic for a post, sometimes got none. Last night it sent 459 viewers to one post. I wasn't sure if it's real traffic.

After reading this thread, I have to do more than just posting links on reddit.

I keep it simple and just post my link to relevant sub-reddits as well as doing a bit of replying and commenting on other peoples topics to make it look like I'm not spamming and the traffic flows. Reddit loves funny pics and infographics so share those and watch them go viral across multiple sections and even more traffic flow in.

Redditors are a goofy bunch. I posted with some pretty interesting content and they responded with about 150 clicks in 12 hours, but there was an extremely high bounce rate. If your blog is about cats, atheism, macrimay, oatmeal cookie potlucks, or some other marginally relevant subject, then Reddit is your social site. For serious IM pros, there are other ways to get traffic.
