Does selling t shirts count?

Hello Everyone,

I am a new member. I am selling stenciled and silkscreened t shirts, and am trying to figure out how to market to a broader audience. I have a blog, and my checkout is through Etsy. I know I should try to get a good page ranking on organic searches with the use of Keywords, but I don't always write about t shirts on the blog, I guess I talk about "lifestyle" stuff, experiences, traveling. Should I submit samples to t shirt blogs with some words so they can backlink to me?

Thank you,

Aaron

Just create a few banners or find someone to create those for you and put it on your blog, also create a signature for every blog post you made in every blog. You don't need to promote t-shirts inside the blog post about travel, that would be too obvious.

    Cheers.

    Yes!

Having a blog is a good step in the right direction. Start with SEO and link building, and all that other lifestyle content will be a plus

I guess I am from a different camp but I try to stay relevant for each product. Now if demographics is suggesting that your particular shirts are desirable to world travelers I can see mixing the two but that would be the only reason for me to leave relevance.

You are selling T-shirts but that is not your real product. You are really selling a message, or a joke, or a piece of art,; an experience of some kind that the buyer wants.

Perhaps your T-shirts have a theme, or you particularly retro t-shirts for ex-hippies or something, but those are ideas that you can target promotions for or look for sites that cater to the subject of your t-shirts.

Hey, you should also consider selling your tshirt designs on Zazzle.

Is the focus of what you're doing online your t-shirts or your blog? What I mean is, do you want the blog to act as support for your t-shirt sales (a way for customers to get to know you, keep up with new designs you've created, etc) and give "link juice" to your Etsy shop? Or are you primarily focused on blogging and the t-shirts you create are a way of earning money from your blogging endeavors?

Promote it offline too. I have a friend who wants to sell t-shirts online. You always have ebay also. Do your niche research and find out how other merchants selling t-shirts online are doing it.

For something like T-shirts, I suggest you do a LOT of social marketing. With the help of your friends, something like T-shirts has the ability to go viral easier than a lot of other IMer's products.

    Wow!

First of all, I have to say thank you to all of you who responded. You all responded so quickly, and with such thoughtful ideas, I'm kind of blown away. My mind is chugging along on so many great ideas. Now to implement...

I wanted to clarify my method - I am using the blog to give an inside scoop into the art process, and sources of inspiration. It's meant to give some back story for the end product, which is the art - a visual message. I do want to ultimately drive traffic to the Etsy site, because that's where the checkout is.

    Thanks again,

    Aaron

Make a local business listing on Google places. It will give you more exposure. Also build websites around T-shirts keyword and get them ranked in local searches and as well as global searches. If your T-shirts are good, people will buy it.

I have seen folks who promote their business through T-shirts. I'd say go for it. Maybe use a site like Cafepress or Zazzle.
