Has anyone had experience marketing both a Kindle and PDF version of the same book?

I'd like to promote a series of Kindle formatted books that I saw on Amazon, but to a very specific audience who would probably prefer a PDF.

I'm contacting authors now to find out if they would like to jv on PDF versions of their books.

Thanks

Those authors will likely reject your offer. I would in their shoes.

Here is the thing. PDF products get stolen daily and uploaded to public websites.

And the moment that Amazon discovers a Kindle book that is available elsewhere for free, Amazon will set the price on the book to $0.00 and royalties will end immediately for that book title.

      Good point.

PDF products do get stolen daily, but that doesn't mean they were making any money before they were ripped.

I know people who have only sold 5 copies of a $4.99 Kindle book who would have done much better selling their book for $19 to a targeted audience of 10,000 people.

That's really where I want to go with this.

I agree. If you search for a particular author or a title of a book on-line, there are tons of free PDFs for download.

        I agree too.

But what I've found is that people don't usually Google "free keyword pdf", they simply Google "keyword".

In one case my keyword was Googled 64 million times in one month, while "free keyword" was Googled less than 1 million times, and "free keyword pdf" was nowhere to be found.

We can sell stuff to a targeted audience no matter how many freebies are out there because most people aren't even looking for them.

You mean you are going to take those book out (copy) and resell? I don't think it is a good idea.

I would ask the author to offer a version of the ebook that can be read as an Adobe PDF.

To my understanding a Kindle ebook is just a text file with copy protection that only a Kindle can decode.

If the authors will partner with me on a PDF version of their Kindle book, then there will be both.

I have actually started to move slowly to publishing just on Kindle. A whole lot less refunds and chargebacks.

Plus you can get a Kindle reader app and software for free now. You don't have to own a Kindle. Amazon also has a cloud reader that you can use to read your Kindle books in any browser.

I'm really liking the Kindle platform and delivery method more and more each day over pdf.

Yes! I just noticed that you can download Kindle for PC or Mac software. I could do Kindle sites for my niches, and put up links to the software. SOLVED!

      Thanks Rob!

From the consumers point of view.. The Kindle platform has many advantages. One being...

I can start reading a book on my Android Tablet... Later that day, load up the same book I was reading on my PC and automatically start reading from the exact place I left off on my tablet. Then while waiting for dinner at a restaurant, I can pickup at the last point I read on my Android cellphone. Then when I get home, pickup again with my reading at the last position on my tablet again.
