Can anyone explain this strange traffic source?

I'm wondering if someone can expain this.

I run a small blog on behalf of my son to help him get funding for his sport which he plays for his country.

It's a simple little blog on blogger that currently has no backlinking etc.

When I had a quick look at the stats for it, I noticed one of the traffic sources was a youtube video totally unrelated to the blog content. I didn't really think anything of it until I looked at the comments below and most of them were on a similar theme.

They were all asking why this video was driving traffic to their sites.

Can anyone shed any light on what's happening. It's got me baffled.

Thanks

Andrew

    Could be Referrer Spam.

People have software that will hit other people's websites a lot, for the simple purpose of getting traffic from webmasters wondering why that page is showing up in their traffic reports.

The software spoofs the source URL with whatever someone put into the spamming software.

Normally, this software is used to promote worthless websites. This is the first time I have heard of someone using it to promote a worthless video.

They use an automated software to drive hits to your website. Then, in case your stats are public, they will get a backlink from you to their video.

Also, they may want to boost the views to their video by doing this. Maybe even a combination of both. In fact, just by posting the video here, you're helping them a little more, which you may not want to do...

It's definitely sending fake referer to your website using some kind of automated software.

    .
Ever notice that people who spend money on WSO, memberships and courses, are always complaining about being broke and not making any money ?

They should have bought ASSETS instead.

Ohh... a new one on me. Sounds a bit like trackback spam, only more contrived.
