Hello,

I have two questions

1)

I often see websites where people promote Amazon products and provide just information with a link to send you to amazon.

Then I sometimes see website which have there own checkout system.

The people who have there own checkout system, are these products there own? and possibly drop shipping products only?? or are there other ways to have a checkout system "without" actually owning the product?

2)

If i am interested in the insects/bug niche and looking to make money from online products related to this... am i better off creating very niche sites for each individual insect/bug such as antfarm.com and growworms.com

or

Am i better of with an authority site with categorise combining all insects and all the content in one website. MY website name would then not be so keyword freindly. Possibly something like homeinsectfarms.com...

I assume I can get higher google rankings with separate niche website for each insect?

thanks for the help

    1) The websites with minimal info a link direct to Amazon are most likely Amazon affiliate websites. The websites with products on them that allow you to checkout directly on their site are more traditional ecommerce stores. They either stock the products themselves or more likely they are having the products dropshipped.

    2) In Google's current algorithm I would go for a larger niche website rather than multiple micro-niche websites. You can build up the overall authority of that website and then get traffic to the numerous categories, sub-categories & product pages. I recommend also having a blog and tying it to social profile pages that you can update with each new blog post.

BTW, you need to do some good keyword research before jumping into anything. Make sure there are some keyword phrases that show some intent to buy and represent product lines that will give you margins.. Otherwise you are wasting your time!

    Sounds like a fun niche.
I would think for the bugs/insects niche a single site would work well for you.
Add Categories to the site regarding niches withing the niche.
Then add about 10 articles posting some to each category.
When this is done open site up to google for indexing.
This should give the site some oomph in the rankings fairly quickly.

Complex question but let me take a crack (i've been in the amazon game for a while)

There are basically two different ways to promote amazon products on your site

    1) direct linking (this is what I do, because I like clean code on my tiny self-host)
    2) amazon cart (their API DOES allow you to integrate a cart of your own. this makes it cool because people can "Add to card" on your site, then when they "check out" they are forwarded to amazon. BUT, this in itself is not dropshipping; during checkout they are merely forwarded to amazon.

I haven't split tested this adequately enough to see which is superior, though like I said I think direct linking is just less server load, which is a plus for me.

      Thanks for the great replies.

I think just one authority site is indeed the best way to go.

      do have another question.

If a site will be promoting Amazon items and such, but also want a blog and review pages. I do not know what type of Wordpress theme I would be looking for?

The e-commerce themes seem to only have the ability to provide pictures and fancy looking slides which is great for promoting products but what about blog pages and the rest?

or with tweaking can any Wp theme work?

What do people normally end up with with regards to Word Press themes for selling and reviewing please?

It should be mentioned that if you host the cart on your own site you get a much longer cookie on Amazon. I believe it is 30 or 60 days vs. 1 day for direct linking. In other words, you get credit for purchases made over a longer time period.

I also am of the opinion that if people come to your site and discover it is just a bunch of links to Amazon, they make think less of it (at least I would) than if the site had more functionality, likes articles, videos, and yes- a shopping cart.

But that's just my opinion... don't know if there is any hard data either way.

Oh, there are dozens of wp themes and add-ons built for these exact purposes. You'd only want an ecommerce type plugin if you were planning on allowing purchases right on your website. Search Google for Amazon WP plugins and you will find boat loads!
