OMG! My seminar was JAMN packed all thanks too...

I'd love to be able to say "my seminar was jamn packed" but in all honesty
I need some help.

I'm a real estate guy BUT I also love Mixed Martial Arts... so what I have done is created a Self Defense Seminar for Women in my Local Area... where the end goal is to personally train some of them with my partner.

So far I have 17 confirmations for this seminar but WOULD love 50!

(17 have came from my small in house email list... and I milked it pretty good)

Any ideas on how I can get more attendees?

Thanks guys and gals,

Jay B.

    Hey RealEstateGuy29,

Depending on how much time you have before your seminar,
you could survey the 17 that signed-up and find out why they did,
this might give you another angle to approach the other ladies
    on your list..

Also you maybe able to JV with other, Martial Arts clubs and gyms
in your area, if they have their own lists..

Maybe you could make your offer more compelling, e.g free lesson,
    free training DVD Ect..

    All the best

You could place flyers on windsheilds of sports centres in the evening when aerobic classes are happening (check if its legal where you live first), or try a small ad in the local paper.

    Hi

    Have you tried advertising?

If you make a facebook page for your training you can use facebook ads to promote your training. You can get ultra targeted with facebook and only target the age/gender/income/interests of your market and only from your city. By using very targeted demographics and sending clicks to a fanpage instead of off site, you can get very cheap clicks with facebook. So women/-5-40-Like MMA/Karate/Fitness -In Your city

You can use Craiglist for free and put your ads in appropriate categories.

Look for local fitness forums and blogs. Post in the forums/use sig links if allowed. In Ottawa there are a number of local forums for various activities.

I also see flyers for things like this on community bulletin boards and street posts in my area. If you go to fiverr and look for flyer distribution foir your city you may find a good deal for $5. There many people who will distribute 50-100 flyers for $5 in cities all over the world.

One suggestion would be to shoot a lot of video and get video feedback/interviews from participants during your first course so you have original first-hand video to use as promotion for your future courses.

You could also offer a 'bring a friend' discount where you give a participant a big discount if they bring a paying friend and offer it to the 17 who are currently signed up. Maybe your attendance will double.

You may want to notify your local community. Give a local women's associations a cut for referring your service to their members. Wham I just gave you your 50+ seminar.

Now PM me to send my check.

Ask for referrals. Do more paid advertising. Offline and online. Start a viral campaign online getting people to opt-in to your list, and then pitch them on the seminar.

You can speak to real estate offices during their sales meetings. You'll get a few women to sign up at every talk.

Any local women's group (Sorry, I have no idea what the are named) would love to have you speak to them for a short talk, and you can get them to sign up for your longer seminar.

    Yep.

Create some free instructionals on basic self defense moves, put them on youtube, then promote that somehow.

Doesn't matter how, be creative, but ensure to target LOCAL people.

(can do that with google, or do it locally by asking pizza shops or gyms to let them put your cards / flyers / website URL there)

PS: one of the biggest MMA places in my area (actually bjj) promotes heavily on adwords.

I'm a huge MMA fan too, hope you can succeed well.

If I were you, I'd put up some awesome self defense tutorials (nothing too long, make it short and impressive, and impressive for women) then redirect your youtube URL to your domain.

    Then promote that domain locally.

    Good luck

Local people as in people in your city within a 50 mile radius.

P.S. Those who signed up send a second email thanking them for signing up and you just thought wouldn't it be wonderful if they could bring their love ones on the journey to self defense. If they want to add any friends you'll discount their invitation to X amount. Just have their loved ones/friends sign up to your email and mention your name.
P.P.S. Make those who signed up feel special and you have concern for everyone they love so out the kindness of your heart you decided to make a special offer. See if you can squeeze your list to add others for you. Ha.

Have your first video like "I'm going to show you this first defense tactic against a front choke. Front chokes are the most common attacks against women, and it's important for you to know the proper defense."

Then after giving a brief tutorial, say "It's important that you know these practical defenses, but remember it's MORE IMPORTANT to train them in real life. I'm having a free seminar on -insert date-, you're personally invited to attend! If you're interested in attending this LIFE SAVING tutorial, please contact me at -insert phone number-."

"I look forward to having you, and look forward to saving your life."

Have you approached a women's entrepreneur or business association in your area? Usually they have "Meetups" where they get speakers to come in. Volunteer to do one of those, and give a presentation. Women who are meeting with "business men/women" outside of a formal business setting are probably more aware they need special skills if something were to happen and would be more welcoming to your services.

Ok so you have a few clients already so this shouldn't be too hard...ask yourself...who are these women that have already signed up? Are they in their 20's and 30's or are they a tad older than that? Why are they interested in learning this sort of thing? Where do they hang out? What is their biggest motivating emotion associated with the desire to learn self defense?

I would fill in the blanks a bit for you but I have no experience in this niche. Once you answer these questions you should be able to figure out an advertising strategy that targets your ideal demographic....and you will be able to land them as clients if you capitalize on their emotions....probably more fear than anything... I would imagine.

    Have you tried online forum?

First, search an online forum, which is frequently visited by the local folks, and oh ...
ANY forum, even a political forum will not delete an interesting self-defense seminar

Second, post it in the Off-Topic forum, your post will be exposed to many member and shared by people in their circle.

Third, post your seminar date, place, tell me who you are, and make an interesting videos about how you can help ladies protect them self from jerk around town.

    GO VIRAL!

Here are a few thoughts for you. However, this is long-term thinking, probably not something that is going to help you for this particular class.

      1. Get VERY clear on WHO your target audience is. There is a certain type of woman who's much more likely to register for your classes than others. When you know exactly who you're going after, you can a) look exactly in those places where she is found and b) craft a marketing message that speaks directly to her.

This eliminates a LOT of waste in your efforts.

      2. Design a good system to generate consistent leads. Notice I said SYSTEM, not just one-off tactics. Dan Kennedy is in the middle of a launch for his "Ultimate Lead Generation Machine" (The Ultimate Lead Generation Machine | Video | Official Website) and I would consider it if I were you. If you know how to consistently generate qualified leads, then you're in the driver's seat, both in your business AND your life.

What I like about ULGM is that it focuses on integrating offline with online marketing. As Dan says, the worst number in business is ONE: ONE method for getting customers, ONE advertising medium (e-mail, etc.), ONE offer; ONE ad, etc. You need both online AND offline methods.

It's pricey by WF standards, but I know it's some of the best info ever. (I purchased it on Monday and can't wait to get it!)

I know this isn't very helpful to you for this particular class, but it will help you NOT be in this position again if you take the time to design a good lead generation system for future classes.

      Hope that helps!

I would say for this - check out local groupon or livingsocial. I'm NOT 100% sure what they charge, but I'm guessing that dropping even one single ad will pack your seminar. I have seen businesses take off due to these sites. Good luck sir!

Jay here is a very easy way to get the 17 to double, triple and quadruple!

Ask the 17 registered attendees, to send you the email addresses of like-minded friends who you can reach out to.

Offer them a 10% discount for every friend of theirs that replies and books a session. So the attendees would get 10% for 1 friend who books, 20% for 2, 30% for 3, etc.

Now, make sure you state that the discount applies for every session those friends attend WITH them. This makes it easy for you to track and apply the discount.

If you have access to fancy software, you can go a step further and sign your attendees up as affiliates and help them EARN a commission promoting you!

The best option for you here is to LEVERAGE the current attendees' friends lists.

    Hope this helps
