BEST WAYS TO BUILD A LIST OF MUSICIANS/ARTISTS???? ANY THOUGHTS APPRECIATED

If my goal is to target people who want to be in the music industry, what would be the "best" approach you can think of to acquire people on my list?

Solo ads
Forums
ETC

Thoughts or insights?

Thanks!

Personally, I would start a music blog. On my blog, I would have a very notable squeeze page that kinda stands out from the rest of the blog. From there I would write music articles, linking people to my blog. Post useful information on the forums with my blog link in my signature. Last but not least, with these articles and forum posts, work on ranking for decent keywords in Google.

Note: You will need something to give away in order to get people to opt-in.

So...in other words, content, content, content....makes perfect sense...forum posts definitely sound like a good compliment...once you have the content.

      Thanks!

to build any list you have to give something away for free or very good deal..

there are many musicians searching for VSTi, music theory lessons ets. That would be a good long term way.

If you want short term then creating ads on youtube etc would be another option.

Absolutely agree Priyankeshu in regards to free giveaways ...however, the music artists I'm looking to build with are people that fairly experienced...when you say "ads on youtube" do you just mean videos or are you talking about actual ads?

Would be awesome if you could an interview with some artist that have expertise in your niche. Put the video interview on your blog/website. It's doesn't have to a famous artist, but maybe someone that expert in playing guitar and can give same guitar lessons and tips on the video.

Then you could offer the visitor another free video (advanced version) or an ebook through an opt-in form. All you have to do is create the landing page and setting up the autoreponder.

As you said, you could run the solo ads, it's one of the best way to build a list. Once you have enough list you could run ad swaps with fellows in the same niche...

      Hope it's help...

      Cheers,
      Amanda

I actually never thought about that Amanda...interviewing artist...which I happen to know a number of successful ones....so you would direct them to a landing page as opposed to a squeeze? Just curious...

      Thanks!

One thing to note is that the "music industry" covers a lot of ground, so you'll need to be sure to prepare different offers for different types of musician.

Hip-hop artists, rock guitarists and classical pianists are all going to respond to offers differently and it might be very difficult to put something together that will appeal to all of them.

So I'd be ready to segment and target my offers pretty specifically to different genres.

That makes perfect sense rhealy....I'm reaching out to recording artists but I definitely need to ensure that I have a specific intent with each genre.

I double the suggestion of starting a music blog. Jonathan Coulton started out like that and now he's got a big business.
