Do testimonials really make a difference? and what is the best way to get them?

Hello.

I have been working as a freelance content writer for quite some time now but I never took the time to ask my clients for reviews. So, I was just wondering if testimonials really matter and if they do; what would be the most effective way to get a lot of them?

Alternatively, I could just write up a bunch of fake testimonials but I prefer to be honest about things. Let me know what you guys think of testimonials and how you go about getting them.

When I see a web page with testimonials on it I think, "2004 is calling and they want they want their website back!"

Testimonials are one of most important parts of sales page I think. Especially if you are offering service which may provide some results.

Talk with your client and tell them about testimonials. Give them some bonus or overdeliver as a exchange for short review, and then post it as a testimonial. Video testimonials are great too. You can outsource them on fiverr, but that are not "real testimonials". But I think sales pages with great testimonials have much more conversions.

I don't really know how much they make a difference...but having some won't do any harm.

I would argue that they are probably more effective in a place like the WF. This is because it is a social platform and people can put a face to a name of the testimonial. Whereas someone visiting your website would see a testimonial and couldnt relate it to someone they can find more about.

Don't fake any. I've had success just asking my customers for testimonials and also giving a few free articles away in exchange for reviews...

Go for the legit one and ask them if you could post their contact information (Warriors username, skype and etc.) so it will look like legit than fake.

So do you think it is important for a writer to build a huge collection of testimonials?

Testimonials are often a vital part of your business, especially when you're still in the growing phase. You could offer your clients a discount/free gift in exchange for an honest review.

Testimonials are good for a sales/funnel page. For some reason, people still believe them. Like others though, for personal business websites, they come off a bit outdated, it seems...

Aigh, that seems like a good idea. So, does anyone want a article in exchange for a review?

You need to be confident, if you truly provide a good value articles
to your client. Why do you afraid to ask them to do the testimonial,
    there are nothing can be.

    Just give them right directions,

    1) That you are a client of Timbonitus
    2) That you already success in somewhere because of Timbonitus.
    3) What you particularly like about the Timbonitus' article.
    4) Why other people should buy this service.

    Bests,
    Marcus

Absolutely they make a difference. Yes you do need them. And you have to ask for them.

One way you can get them is to do a blog post about your product and solicit blog comments. These can be used out of desperation

Testimonials plays a major role in making sales or taking a service from you. Just think if you are planning to buy a product then first and foremost thing you do is you will see what people are saying about the product. This is noting but a testimonial about the product a testimonials will always leads into more conversion so i recommend you to take a testimonial from your clients.

but of course it depends on the testimonial right. there are so many websites that have a huge list of fake testimonials out there nowadays its hard to tell which ones are genuine. if i ask people for testimonials i want them to give me their name, email, forum username, etc.

Testimonials do make a huge difference in many niches. In
other niches, people tend to think that they are fake.

I would ask every customer for a testimonial so that you have
a wide variety of them, and then I would use the ones that
are the most sincere and point out specific benefits that the
    customer gained.

I take most testimonials with a grain of salt, and they don't usually influence me that much. In fact, when I see a long sales letter with lots of testimonials, I usually just scroll right past them and get to the gist of the copy as well as to the price.

Testimonials can easily faked or embellished, and unless I have some personal knowledge or dealings with the "testifiers," and I can attest to their credibility, how can I trust anything they are saying?

I've been ripped off too many times to believe everything I read, especially in over-hyped sales copy.

testimonials are very important as they give piece of mind to those customers who are yet to purchase your product or service. The best way to get testimonials is to go above and beyond and exceed your customers expectations each and everytime.
