Vertical vs Horizontal Niche Site Network?

I'm going to build my own private blog network for an upcoming project. These won't be MFA sites or anything like that, but full blogs with good content, the whole works.

I'm wondering a couple of things.....

First is, in your opinion do you think I would have the most success diversifying into multiple niches (health, dating, whatever, etc) or focusing on a single niche.

Second, if I do focus on a single niche, is it best to break down the sites into mini niches? (example: in health you could focus on diet on one site, fitness in another... or get really niche focused and just do a different type of diet on each site.)

Appreciate the feedback. I could use your two cents.

I struggled with this question, and having paid close attention to movers and shakers on this forum and others I have come to the conclusion its best to concentrate on one niche and push it as far as you can. That's what I'm doing. Putting together formula sites and banging out sales emails doesn't work well nowadays, you have to build a personal relationship with your visitors. Someone on here recently said if you are not putting every hour of your available time into your first site you are not trying hard enough, and I agree. When you are really pulling in traffic/income you can perhaps consider outsourcing and rinse and repeat, but that's a long way off for me, and I suspect you too.
