Do you read the posts before responding?

Recently duplicate posts from different members are continuously growing and sometimes, its annoying to read a thread full of comments that makes no sense even if the OP is asking a valid question. I don't want to point my fingers to someone but most of these comments are coming from the same people who commented the same on other threads. It looks like they are not even reading the above responses before posting at the bottom. Sometimes, you can read 3 to 4 posts with just a rewritten content. I guess WF will be a big internal failure to copyscape if I run a test.. :rolleyes:

Sometimes, posts are just direct answers to the thread titles and not answers to thread contents...

I love this forum and the reason why I am saying this is because, I'll be sad if something happens similar to the other forum in green - that is saturated by spammers and trolls...

Please at least scan the posts following the thread before posting...

      Adie, you just have to consider the intent of the poster. Most of the posts you highlighted aren't there to advance the discussion or provide information.

      Some are trying to build post counts toward privileges like signatures and PMing.

      Some are simply building links to other websites, either their own or for hire.

      Some are doing it to expose the offer in their signature.

      There are several warriors (I use the lower case on purpose) that will cruise in once a day, make 20-30 posts of one or two sentences in an hour or so and then disappear until the next milk run. Once you identify these people, they are easy to ignore.

      There are some posters that I simply skip over if I see their names come up in the posts in a thread, but on the other hand there are a number of people who I will read their posts or the threads they start just because I see their names.

      Sometimes they post similar things, but that works for me because sometimes I need to see the same idea a few times before it sinks in. :-)

    I know he's trying to be funny but that is a prime example.

    What gets me is there's people constantly trying to bypass that "Private Message" 50 post barrier so they post stuff like "Thank you for this." or "This is good information!"

    That's another thing. STOP SAYING THANK YOU! There's a "Thanks" button for a reason.

    I've seen a lot of members who write out lengthy and detailed posts who receive no thanks and then there's members who come in with one liners who receive 5-10+ or even more thanks.

    I really don't see anything wrong with people responding to a 2 post thread without reading the responses as long as they post something that's relevant to the original question and more than "Thank you for this post."

        The easiest way to reduce this happening would be to make it so to have a signature or send PMs you need either;

        1. At least 10 thanks from 10 different members who have at least 25 posts.

        2. A War Room membership.

          I'm a new guy and l can tell you that you have to have 50 posts before you can send a PM. I think l had to have 10 posts before l could make a signature too.

          Good suggestions though.

    This first occurred to me in the WSO section...
    people asking the same questions over and over again...
    people who have obviously not read the whole or even part of the thread
    and most of the time not even the entire sales copy.

    Since the posts in the WSO section don't count against the post count and IMHO
    signatures are blanked out there... those two can't be the main reason why this happens.
    I always have to resist the urge to ask something like "why don't you read before you ask and why do you expect to be served by others?"

    I have watched this in other sections too, of course... and I don't get it.

      There was actually an interesting Poll started by a name that I can't remember. The Poll asked people what they read on a WSO sales page.

      The choices were:

      A) The whole thing
      B) Just the headlines
      C) I just scroll down to see the price
      D) I don't buy WSOs

      It was surprising to me that an overwhelming amount of people picked B and C.

      I mean C, really? Are you making sure you don't waste your time reading it or do you just want to see if you have the money they're asking for? Also, what can the headlines possibly tell you about the product?

      I'll save some of you the trouble, "You're about to discover a shocking new method that.." should cover about 1/2 the headlines you'll see in WSOs.

    That is definitely a pet peeve of mine ... people not reading the OP nor the previous comments before posting, especially the folks who ask questions on WSOs that have already been addressed in the FAQs and in previous comments.

    I just want to shout, "Read the thread, STUPID, and you will find your answer!" People are lazy!

    The posting of duplicate threads is a very good example of how lazy people can be. All they need to do is conduct a search and they will find numerous threads addressing the same topic!

    I believe that people use these tactics because they are impatient, don't want to spend any time reading, and/or want to increase their post count. However, I am seeing quite a few of these weak threads being ignored because the subject-matter has been addressed so many times before, it should not be too hard to find the answer.

    Well actually there is a very valid point and reason to sometimes repeat an answer that was all ready posted. Its simple. If you ask a question and get a response from one person it has very little weight. However if you get the same response from several people you can assign more weight to that response and know with greater certainty that the response is valid.

    I did notice you mentioned how WF wouldnt pass copyscape .. just that comment by you is silly. This is a discussion board, and just like a real discussion people are going to concur with other people and reinforce there position in the discussion by agreeing and stating there agreement.

      Sorry it is kind of hard to tell when someone is kidding on a forum Especially when your still new to it yourself, and with only 100 posts Im a new guys still who hasnt learned the personality of people.

      Buy I was still saying though .. that it 'may' be valid to reiterate a post that someone else made .. to lend weight to the answer. For example if I said 'is it important to have double opt in on emails' ,, and 1 person said .. 'of course it is' then I might doubt that this person knows what he is talking about. However if 50 people answered the same way then I can much more faithful that the answer is correct.

      Notice that I said 'may' however. This of course only apples when the OP is asking a question.

    How can you respond if you dont read the post first? Alot of posts on this forum are repetitive due to the high number of new members who are starting out, and are looking for guidance - and answers to their questions. So if repetitive answers are given for each of these new members... can you really get upset at the experienced posters who've answered such "newbie" questions?

      I don't have time to scan through 40 peoples opinions and add to what's already written. If that means I sometimes miss something then so be it.

      But obviously there's questions I find interesting and will read through.

        That's a good point. As threads get longer and longer, the only people who tend to read the whole thread post by post are the ones involved with the discussion.

        And as some threads get to be hundreds of posts long, Paul Myers' "What to do if you are desperate" thread for example, it becomes even more attractive to the sig pimps, link droppers and post count pumpers because they know the thread is likely to survive and their 'contribution' unlikely to be reported/deleted.

        What distinguishes people like Jamie from the miscreants above is that a) they usually mention that they didn't read the whole thread and b) they actually have something to say.

    Personally, I usually try to read the OP and scan the thread pretty well. With special attention given to those posters who I know and feel have probably already given some solid information or thoughts on the topic at hand.

    Also, there is no point in saying what someone like alexa has already said in an article marketing thread. And good luck beating her to the thread...lol.

    I look at the forum as a conversation though. Basically if i am not into a particular conversion enough to pay pretty decent attention to what is being said, then I should probably just find myself another conversation to be a part of.

    Sometimes I read through an entire thread and feel foolish
    about responding because someone has already said what
    I was about to say. One exception to that rule is if my answer
    will build consensus when the OP is asking about a particular
    tool or method.

    But just from the answers I know that some people simply
    read the OP and then respond directly.

    Forum readers develop their own sieve after a while so that
    low quality posters will eventually get mentally sifted in the
    process. I can't see a solution outside of the readers choice
    to skip such posts.
