Niche Research Oddities

So I am puzzled and perhaps somebody can clue me in to what I might be missing here. I was working on finishing my book earlier today and in the course of doing that I was taking screenshots and going through one of my methods and I uncovered a great niche/targeted keyword. Its a very high exact search volume keyword with mass appeal and I thought for sure it would already be clobbered. The first thing I did was register the last remaining EMD and then looked a little further.

As far as competition in the SERPs there is one guy who is obviously trying really hard because he's on the front page with tens of thousands of indexed backlinks. But he's being outranked by other sites with handfuls of backlinks. They are not really optimized for this term and more to the point are not appealing to the market with products they would buy. There's a guy with a site with a forum, but compared to the search volume its got marginal activity and I think its because its buried and once you get into it its...well its hokey.

I checked out Clickbank and found that there's a fair number of products that have been created over the past couple years, but almost all of them are now dead with no gravity. There's a handful of products that have very very low gravity. I check out the product pages / sales letters and it almost looks like they have given up as every single one has a pop up for email capture, as opposed to funneling the traffic through the sales letter. These products should have big gravity and be crushing it.

I'm kind of scratching my head. What could I be missing here. Its a market with mass appeal, with a very high search volume, where a ClickBank product would be perfect and I could even see potential for a membership site. I poked around and there's no legal hangups like FTC regulations or anything like that.

I find it highly unlikely that I magically stumbled upon some kind of untapped miracle niche. There's got to be something I'm missing here, like a reason the traffic doesn't convert or that none of the products rank on the first page / nobody's really gone after it. What could it be? Unless its just that it hasn't caught the attention of real IM'ers yet, but I would find that hard to believe. Is there something else I should be looking at here that could be holding this niche back?

Over analyzing and failing to take action when the light is green?

Without further details, it could be that it is a keyword where people aren't looking to buy solutions.
If it is a niche aimed at teenagers/kids, they tend to not have money to spend.
