How do I get affiliates?

Hey guys I've been wondering about a couple of things and I'm not exactly sure how to go about them as it will be my first time.

I need affiliates to promote my products, but what's the difference between an affiliate and a JV? I'm sorta confused, is there a different agreement with them or how does that even work?

And whats the best way to attract affiliates and network with them and get them to promote my product.

All help is appreciated thanks.

    An affiliate is someone just promoting your products.

    A JV is a more complicated agreement. Anything from reciprocal mailings up to developing and launching products together.

    If you want people to promote your products you've got to show them why it's profitable for them to do so and, more importantly, why it's profitable for them to do it compared to what else they could do.

    Most people start out thinking "I have a product, if the guy makes sales, he gets paid, how can he say no?"

    But the reality is, the guy you're trying to convince is already promoting stuff and already making money (if he's not, he's going to be a sucky affiliate) so your promo needs to do better than what he's already got going and the hard truth is that's rarely the case.

        You gotta have a good product, that's a given. If you don't, the refund rate will kill the campaign regardless of what else you do (short of skipping town with the money!).

        Price and commission % aren't what matter though. I'll take 1% of $1000 over 100% of $1 any day.

        The figure that affiliates care about is EPC (earnings per click) that is, how much $$$ do I gets paid for every click I send you. This is the figure I can use to compare your offer to another one and also to work out if I'm buying clicks for less than I'm getting for them.

          Boosting the EPC is going to be work, thats for sure.

            Pretty much an system for setting up an affiliate program will support giving commission on additional offers. We do at DigiResults but that applies just as much to W+/JVZoo/ProductPay/Clickbank/Clicksure/RAP etc etc (apologies to all the ones I've missed, nothing personal!)

            And yes, adding additional offers and paying a commission on them to is one of the easiest ways to boost EPCs along with improving the conversion rate of your sales page.

    As a further point, some retail theory for you.

    The difference between the customer and the consumer if you manufacture tennis rackets.

    The end consumer of a tennis racket is the guy who plays tennis, the product has to appeal to him either way.

    But the customer of a tennis racket manufacturer is a tennis racket retailer. They want a tennis racket that sells but they also want one that takes up minimal shelf space, that fits standard size display racks, that comes with advertising posters for their store and has a national ad campaign running to drive customers to their store.

    In this case affiliates aren't our customers in the same way but much of the same theory applies. It's not just about a good product (you gotta have that regardless of channel) but spend some time working out what the extras are that affiliates want and give them those.

    As the previous posters already stated, you need to have a good product.
    Besides that, you need to make it financially worthwhile for your affiliates to promote you over other products.

    Another thing related to having a good product. I know I would never promote a product that my site visitors will not benefit from, as that would reflect negatively on me and my site. I would not promote a harmful or useless product on my website, even if it made me double or triple what I would make on another product, simply because it would hurt my site and lose me money in the long term.

      Hardly anyone ever gets in touch with me to tell me what they can (and will) do for me. It's always a pitch on what I can do for them.

      So needless to say the few that do get in touch and say, "Hey Andy, I've got an awesome product that does blah, which I know is a great match for your list because you sel XYZ. I've tested the conversions on the product myself via PPC and got these results ... and since I really, really want you on board I'm giving you 100% commission on the whole funnel."

      Except getting a product to that point and spending the time on researching is effort and people don't like doing that. So instead they PM me and say, "Hi XYZ, will you promote my product, if you will I'll send more details." <--- An honest to goodness, word-for-word quote of a PM I've received.

        I'm not making a penny but I'm boosting my campagins EPC with this if he is an amazing affliate and promotes amazingly well? Am I right there

          You still make tons of money if you're doing it right as you should be capturing the details of everyone that buys your product and promoting other stuff to them.

          A list of buyers is one of the most valuable assets your business can have.

          You still get optins. Your funnel should have an optin, then upsells etc.
