Backups for Wordpress?

Hi,

I just wanted to know the process that people go through to backup their wordpress blogs?

Specifically:
1. What plugins you use?
2. How many different types of backups you do?

Trying to find out what is best.

Thanks!

There is a Wordpress Backup Plugin. Or you can do it manually.

There are 2 parts to backing up your wordpress, there are your files, and your database.

The easiest way to back up your files & folders, is simply just copy your public_html folder from your FTP software on to your computer. That backs up all the files and folders.

2nd your database - if you use cPanel, just go into myPhPadmin section, and click into the database you want to save; then export it as a SQL databse.

A really good tool is BackUp Buddy > which backs up your folders & your databse automatically every week and uploads the files to your dropbox account. Brilliant idea which I think I am going to invest into soon.

    Hope that helped.

    Try Backuper.

It's a plugin that connect to your cPanel API to do scheduled cPanel backups of your website (complete backups).

    And it's free.

If you are using cPanel, the best way is to run a full backup. This will include all files, databases, user accounts, domains, DNS records, emails & more.

I like backing up my files to Dropbox, it backs up both your files and your database.

You can check out the Wordpress plugin here:

Backupbuddy all day long!! so easy to use. If your site gets hacked no problem! clean out your host files and migrate your site back in no time flat. I have had to do this twice for one client because she kept posting to her blog whilst logged in as administrator! not a good idea.

Backupbuddy 3.0 is out i think?

I use Wp-Twin to backup my sites. I can backup my sites within a minute with a couple clicks. Restoring a backup is also a breeze. I regularly create wordpress sites and it really comes handy when you have to transfer sites in bulk.

I have also used backup buddy and it really is no match for wp twin.

      What are the differences?

I haven't used either but am interested in understanding your view :-)

Some of the things you need to consider in terms of backups:
    - Backups need to run automatically - otherwise you will forget
    - Backups need to store at least one copy of your backup archives outside the hosting account
    - You need to know how to restore your backup and test that it works

Normally I recommend that you put together a scheduled mix of daily, weekly and monthly backups... this will give you maximum cover... I've written an article about this: WordPress Backup - The Plugin and The Plan

Wordpress Backup Plugin is what I use - pretty useful if you are too lazy to do backups manually or you forget this kind of stuff easily ( I fall into both categories )
