How to know top reasons behind a page ranking number one in google?

Being a newbie and working on self's website for SEO, I was wondering that what steps should we follow in order to assess the reason behind that why a page ranks at number one in google for a set of keywords?

Is there any particular procedure, steps or tool through which the top reasons behind why a particular page is on top for particular keywords can be known?

    Well, for starters, you'd have to figure out Google's algorithm. Good luck with that as they tend to keep it private.

      If you can get the top ranking for a short tailed keyword fast, it's probably not worth having. For long tailed keywords, the best strategy is content and article marketing, with links back to whatever page you are trying to get ranked for. Focus on content not algorithms and links and you will find google will reward you :-)
