Target spam and softening the effects.

Ok I'm playing around with some off-net stuff but asking this in the general forum as it has to do with email and not specifically with my offer... Mods please move this if you feel that it is indeed in the wrong forum.

I'll use a hypothetical to avoid getting into specifics and creating side conversations not related to the true question (and to avoid spotlighting my niche .)

Let's say that I'm offering a marketing service printing and posting flyers and I want to target car dealerships. I'm going to be doing this all across the country so I am using email to contact my potential clients. I'm pulling email addresses for specific sales people off of the dealership's website.

I am sending each potential client a personalized email offer for my marketing product and including a sample. The question is, how do I minimize the "Spam Effect" when sending these out?

Yes I know technically this IS spam but if they don't respond to me this they will not hear back from me. In other words if they don't email me back requesting more information or requesting my services I won't be sending anything else to them.

I'm considering adding a comment to my sales letter, something along the lines of:

" I pulled your email address from your ad, I am a marketing professional and genuinely want to help you market your business, you are not on a "mailing list" and if I don't hear back from you regarding this offer I won't send any more emails. Everybody hates spam and I am no different, please understand that I would never share your contact information with anyone else. "

For those doing email marketing does that paragraph make sense? Obviously I'm trying to minimize the effect of the spam that they just opened from me and letting them know that I'm not going to keep sending them offers.

So do I include this "Yes I just spammed you but please don't be mad because I will only do it this one time." paragraph or just forget it, roll the dice and send out my offer without begging for leniency?

    People are sophisticated about spam these days. As soon as they see your sales pitch, they'll hit the Spam button.

    The technique sales people are using these days is to send out a cold email, then immediately follow it up with a phone call tied to the email. "Hello, my name is Slime E. Salesman and I'm calling about the email I sent you. Have you had a chance to read it yet?"

    A more expensive but also more effective method is to snail mail a sample of your product, then follow it with a call.

    And this belongs in Offline Marketing.

      Thanks Fluff, that's sort of what I was thinking too and I really don't like spam, really don't want to spam others either so I think I need to reconsider how I'm going to present this to prospective clients or maybe even go after a different market initially.
