Buying A Domain ... co, com, info ???

Quick question for all the members, so I've had some awesome success with EMD w/ ext .com but it is becoming more and more difficult to find these EMD w/ the .com ext so I was curious from an SEO point of view since I dont know to much about it ... do other ext make a difference or is it simply to give the viewer a sense of security being a .com ext vs another one.

For example
godaddy.com
vs
godaddy.info

Does google & other search engines look at the ext diff?

Thanks

Whenever possible, buy a .com. Why use .info or .ws and 'leak' traffic to .com? It's not really difficult to find the domains you want ... it depends on your budget, because many domains are for sale (some priced at just 2-3 figure). Most marketers only get what's available for regular registration. Maybe they're rarely educated by some so-called 'gurus' about the value of domains. It's worth investing in a high grade domain for your long-term business. Best of success.

Yes it's a factor, always aim for getting a .com Why build a site that's not even partially brandable, even if it's for a throwaway niche.. My point, always get the .com, or think of ways to get around it, get creative!

Strictly speaking, from an SEO point of view .com, .net, or .org are all good as far as I can tell. The reason that marketers prefer .com is because it is so ingrained in the minds of the general public. If someone visits your site briefly and wants to come back later, chances are they will remember the URL as ending in .com, even if it didn't. When that doesn't work, they may try .net or .org and then give up.

It depends what your using the site for

Generally though I try to always get the .com

If im building an affiliate site and the .com is not available then the next best one is
    the .org for me

If im just buying a domain for redirect for a certain method then a .info is good enough

If i am building a website for a local business then i will get them a .co.uk because i am in the uk and it makes sense only to use a .co.uk for local businesses that do not have a product which can be sold worldwide

these are some of the things to take into consideration before buying

No, domain extensions don't have an affect on SEO. Extensions only serve to specify what type of site you're going to. It only appears that having a .com will affect your rankings because so many .coms appear at the top of Google. The reality is that .coms appear at the top of Google simply because they vastly outnumber the domains with other extensions. The exact match domains, whether they be in .coms or other extensions rise to the top when there is good off site SEO and on site SEO. It has been tested, Matt Cutts has said it in his blogs, and you can also try it for yourself. Hope this helps.

Just steer clear of .info and .biz as far as emds go. Get .com if you can, but .net and .org are fine.

I have had very consistent results with .co and .cc domains when hosted in the USA (assuming the better extensions are taken).

In my opinion when you take .org or .net people thought that you are not the first in this field. People consider .com as a brand.

What's more important is the relevant and fresh content, Google and other search engines are aiming for. If there's no .com, .net, or .org available, go for .info. My domains are working great with any extensions.

Coming up with a lot of mixed results, not that im surprised. There is so many different ways people view IM and what works for some obviously will not always work for another ... I think in this situation the best thing to do is go with the .com just because the ways users of search engines see the domain name. However, in an area where the .com is already taken and you still want to build a site around a specific product then other ext may work just as well. For example product A may have there sales page on domain name:
    productA.com
1 IM decides to build a site about it called, productAreview.com
if i build a site called, productAreview.net I can still easily rank in search engines but may have a hard time getting repeat traffic

    Quick Thought!
If you are doing a review product and .com / .net / .org are all available buy them all!!! make separate articles for the page so search engines do not think its spam but imagine having .com in position 1, .net in position 2, and then .org in position 3 I know this example is far fetched but definitely capitalizing on 1 specific keyword

I've always had best successes with .COM and .ORG. I've heard .NET can be equally as good, but I haven't had much luck with them.

I've always chosen .com wherever possible, simply because that's what the majority of people expect to type at the end of a domain name.

My business model relies solely on type in traffic though, so I need people to remember it easily.

I would recommend .com, however depending on what your website is going to be it might be worth your while getting a local domain. What I mean is one of my sites is all about Ireland so I got a .IE domain which helps people in Ireland relate to it. However if you can get the .com go for it!

I really don't care about the domain extension when I am targeting search engine traffic but I always try to register a dot com if I am going to brand it.

Always get a .com if it is available. Info is least popular.
