FireFox + Plugins = No Hair

Not that I have much hair left to tear out!

For a while I've had problems with my computer being a few seconds behind me when I type something (e.g. reply to a forum post). It got really bad when I opted for pay as you go mobile broadband.

Today I opened the Windows Task Manager window while I was working on a new project and noticed every time I started typing the CPU usage on FireFox went through the roof.

Cut a long story short... I ended up disabling every FireFox plugin and the CPU usage went back to normal.

Pity about the hair though...

    I am using FireFox3...

It was a couple of the plugins which caused the problem - I just decided to bin the lot, don't need them for day to day stuff. If I want to do some research I'll re-activate the ones I need and turn them off when I'm done.

Although FF3 is a stable browser, it does acts funny with certain plugins, especially the ones related to scripts such as Grease Monkey. I guess your approach of "Enable as you need" is the best alternative now.
However, I've heard good things about Opera too so you might want to try it in case FF3 is acting like a brat

If you have to use Firefox w/o plugins, you might as well use the faster Google Chrome. The point of using Firefox is the extensibility offered by plugins.

Good point - Use FireFox with the research plugins for "work" and Google Chrome for everything else.

To bad Roboform doesn't work with Chrome, or maybe it's a good thing. I have Chrome installed on my 2 older computers along with Zonealarm Security Suite. Many times ZoneAlarm has popped up letting me know that Chrome is trying to access the internet, when it is not even open! Hmmmm.....

P.S. Something funny I noticed about this post is the "tags" below the Post Reply button....firefox, hair, plugins....those tags seem to go together.
