Reseller Hosting v/s Shared Hosting

Hello,

I would like to ask that I'm intending to build up huge blog network and for that we are buying domains and also. Till now we have bought both reseller as well as shared hostings. What you guys prefer to do? Can anyone make out some good difference among those two hostings so that I can think about it in the future?

    Hi,

In most cases reseller and shared hosting is the same in that they are both on shared servers. The main advantage of reseller access is that it allows you to setup the accounts that you need with less hassle and more control. You might end up paying more for the account at first, but less overall depending on how many sites you setup on it.

If you plan on linking the sites together, it might be worth buying seperate c class ip hosting for your blog network

If you are doing ONLY that, you already know what you need You may probably using a so called SEO hosting, even though it is bit of an old idea and specifically discouraged by Google.

Why? 9 times out of 10, the IP's will be in the same block, which is pointless as search engines frequently dismiss entire blocks.

OP - If you plan to link sites together, I'd recommend multiple plans with different providers.

If you content is good, relevant quality content, none of the above is needed. Too many people get sold on this "Class C IP hosting" when in most cases you're just paying a premium price for an IP address that isn't needed. 200%+ markup per IP calling it "SEO"...

There are PLENTY of people out there ranking well with sites hosted on plain ol' shared hosting. Do your research first, don't use an "unlimited" everything web host either. Typically the lower spec plans with a bit higher prices yield better environments as it keeps the scammers & spammers away since they're looking for pennies-on-the-dollar hosting.

Just my .02, probably the closest thing to "legit" SEO friendly hosting is the one offered by HostGator, and I say "legit" loosely because Brent has NEVER stated that using so called "SEO Hosting" actually helps.

Reseller is better period. The reason is that each Control Panel is allotted the full 25 processes allowance (HostGator); but for your whole shared account you only get that one 25 processes across all properties. Not good.

Why not focus instead on dedicated hosting? Reseller hosting is still often shared hosting...

I think anything is better than shared.

Reseller, VPS, Semi Dedicated or Dedicated.

Even though more or less Reseller and VPS are also shared. They aren't going to be as open as a regular shared account. Hostgator as the majority use that here is pretty good with their shared hosting, but reseller will always be a bit more secure.

Personally I would consider VPS, Semi or Dedicated depending on how many domains you will be hosting and what you are doing with them. Years ago noticing the prices for reseller and vps were close I made it a habit to always get vps or better. The higher up you go the closer you get to dedicated. For example a reseller account may have anywheres from 10 to 20 on one server. VPS may have something like 6 to 10, hybrid 3 to 6, semi 2, dedicated 1.
