Default Flexibility WP Theme has been updated!

Hi all!

Just a quick note as I know there are a lot of users here of the free WP theme, Flexibility -
it's been recently updated to Flexibility2 - which if you haven't updated the original, this one gives you the ability to change and manage everything from your dashboard, including full color change, headers, content box and sidebar width, etc. You can add widgets under the header and in the footer as well, so really easy to add affiliate programs etc. You can also change backgrounds which is neat, and can give your blog a nice 'custom' look, too.

You can also add Adsense to your posts from the admin.

It also has a new paid upgrade, which creates a really neat sales page with WP but you can still get the free theme at Download Flexibility Theme for WordPress (not an affiliate link!) - it's a bit tougher to find now that they have a 'premium' version too -

Just to give you an idea of the different looks you can easily create, here's some blogs I did last week, with basically the same layout - just changing colors, headers, background:
Fast Insomnia Relief
Grants For School or Business
antiwrinkleskincareproduct.com
purses-purses-purses.com

Needless to say - I love the theme!

Cool, Thanks Melody!

I need to get the upgrade now.

Hey, do you know how to add more tabs at the top of this theme?

I've looked and still haven't figured it out.

Thanks,
Michael

The tabs are related to pages only, which is common on wordpress themes, so you should see a new tab pop up for every page that you create.

If you want to create tabs across the top for categories, you can create a page with the same name as the category - then write a little intro paragraph about the category, and a link to the category listing of the articles OR (better for SEO) text links to a few of the articles in the category. Gives you some nice internal linking too.

The flexibility theme has saved me tons of time and effort... Very easy to setup an opt-in incentive at the top and bottom of all pages... or a strong call to action to visit a salespage, etc.

I'm about ready to grab the affiliate marketing one and their new WP sales page plugin.

Cheers,

Scott

Thanks for posting this Melody .

I have a quick question for you.

I noticed on some of your sites you have linked to above, you don't have the full posts on the front page, instead you have a read more link.

I have been searching everywhere in the flexibility theme options and cannot figure out how to do this.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks
Clare

Just using the 'more' option in the post itself - it's on the post editor but you have to use it manually on each post and that's a pain if you are uploading for future posting - I used to use the PostTeaser, which was like an automated version of the more tag, and would create the excerpts for all posts, future and currebt but it doesn't work with anything past WP 2.6 -

In fact, I posted another thread asking if anyone knows of an alternative to PostTeaser - I have tried a couple, but I haven't found one that works as well as PT did.

Any help on this?

Scott - GRAB IT!! Got it a couple of days ago, and I am just starting to play with it today, and it is just too much fun! So many ways to use this - I am thinking it would be a fast and dirty way to create a membership site if you match it with a WP membership plugin? Maybe MemberWing? So you have the whole site from sales page to member area running on WP.....

It's worth it just for the graphics package ;-)

Can't wait to see their next upgrade.....

Thank you! That's why I love this theme - you can do so many different things - the purses site is actually a Datafeedr site run on Flexibility2!

For most themes if you change the index.php page you can make it an automatic thing.

There's usually a line that has this (there may be stuff before or after it):

<?php the_content(__('Read more'));?>

If you change that to

<?php the_excerpt(__('Read more'));?>

Then your home page should show excerpts of your posts, automatically.

That's really a tough one - I have been looking too, and haven't really found one that does good business listings (I assume that is what you are looking for?). Interestingly - I found a plugin that lets bands post their gig dates and sell tickets - but have not found one that really creates an effective business listing yet!

Hmmmmm.......sounds like a good product there.......

Thanks for the thread Melody.

Question - can the top header be deleted?

I prefer not to waste the top inch and a half on primarily graphics. Plus I like to place the opt-in box as high and right on the page as possible.

Thanks again,

John

Hi John -

I don't if you can totally eliminate the header - but you can make it whatever height you want, and you can also do a text header with a graphic background, so you really can do whatever you want. Also - the 'feature' product area under the header is configurable - it's widget driven, and you can decide on the number of widgets - so you could probably just about eliminate the header, and drop your optin box into the right hand widget.

You can really do just about whatever you want with it!

I have to echo the fact that this a great theme. It really is "flexible" and helps me launch my sites much faster. Also, the "feature" section can be disabled so there is no need to use it if you don't want to.

Thanks - you're right! I forgot about that - and you can also disable the footer, too, I think. If I remember correctly, you can also set both the top and bottom widget areas to show from 1 to 3 widgets too, so you can show either multiple products or a full width banner.

Although - and I am sure it's something I simply haven't figured out yet - I can't get the full width banner to center on the page.

Coding is NOT one of my best skills ;-)

I have a site where I added a page and I could NOT get a tab across the top no matter what I tried. Is there some kind of option in one of the php files or something? I am pretty new to WP.

Thanks for the heads up Melody!

Just a quick question for anyone who may know the answer:

How do I remove the "posted by" and "post date" on my sites/posts? Can it be done on any theme?

I want to make my sites look as static as possible, so any tips would be really appreciated.

Cheers

Usually by setting display property to none via CSS for those elements and/or editing the theme template file. If you can give the URL, it will be easier to help you.

Again, I see this is an older post but was wondering if anyone else had problems with adding an autoresponder code to this theme? When I add mine, the footer and goes all of the way to the right side and everything is out of alignment.
