i'm thinking of making a website in the 'make an app' niche

but i think that it's too competitive because I have done my keyword research and even the long-tail lower searched terms have hundreds of thousands of search results with lots of authority sites on the first page.

i don't think i will be able to stand out enough to get any visitors to my website.

so do you think that i should still try and make a small blog in this niche?

also how can you tell how competitive a niche is?
is it number of search results or how many good sites are at the top of the search results (authority sites)?

i am also interested in forex but i also think that it is too completive for the same reasons.

All niches are competitive dude. Competition is a good thing. You don't necessarily have to use SEO to get traffic either, there's other ways.

If this niche is something you feel you could work with, then by all means you could give it a go. But if your head is not in it, then you'll fail; you need to make sure you've researched it thoroughly. Simply asking us if you will succeed is not going to work..

You have to TEST it yourself, and see what results are like.

Do you have knowledge in this niche?

Become a market leader and anybody will buy your product. There are several people on the WF that would buy it. Take me for example...I would be happy to buy your product if you are a leader in your market or you have built a successful app.

That is what I have done. I built a top 100 app with my magazine.

It's not that I wanted to be a publisher. It is that I wanted to become a market leader in my niche. So first I needed a platform to do that. So I made a winning magazine to get respect from my community.

If you already make apps and have winning apps. You will probably turn enough heads where people would be happy to give you money to understand how you did it.

Good Luck with it! Exciting stuff!

If by "small blog" you mean random topics about app building that you read on some other blog, don't bother. If you know the required programming languages for iOS and Android (C++, C#, Java, Javascript...) and you can produce original content, then go for it.

The web development and programming field prefers usable info over some guy talking. And while there are a lot of sites about app production, it isn't nearly as bad as desktop web design.
