"Dont Be Stupid" marketing technique

So i remember some years ago a guy told me something like, you have to treat on-line readers as if they have the IQ of a "Rock with a stoner personality" [ lol ]

I think this guy was the newphew or son of the guy that owns shoe store, David Z.

So. With that said, he told me to dumb down my marketing campaign and hit people with an honest & bold line that will get my point across in 2 seconds.

My marketing line, which before this i would have thought to be offensive:
"Dont Be Stupid... Dont Overpay, join my club for $xx.xx to save $xxx.xx on shoes"

What was the outcome?

My sales quadrupled if not more.

Just wanted to know. Has anyone else tried a really dumbed down marketing campaign and seen good results?

If so, what were the phrases you used to market?

If that line quadrupled your sales, I'm afraid to imagine what your previous one said...actually now I'm curious, care to share?

Yup. Sometimes being bold and dumbing down your marketing can actually work out really well. Consumers are attracted to people who will put things out there but will also speak to them as if they're a caveman.

there is a very big difference between:
    'dumbing down your marketing'
    and
treating your visitors / customers as morons..

second one is REALLY not going to help your business, first one sometimes does depending on your target group.
